Living in halls of residence Now you have decided to study at the Arts University Bournemouth you will want to consider where to live during your first year. The following pages will provide you with information to help you make this decision. Living in halls of residence is an easy way to make new friends and get to know fellow students from a range of different Arts University courses. Halls can be great fun and a simple way of sorting our your accommodation for the start of your studies. Living in halls of residence can be a vibrant, dynamic experience, with the opportunity to share with, and learn from, fellow students from across the world. You have the chance to meet with people from different backgrounds, with different outlooks on life. All students play an important part in creating a friendly, welcoming and safe environment which counts as home to all residents. However, with 4 students in each house, this form of communal living doesn't suit everyone. We can't guarantee that you'll get on with your housemates, and sharing a house calls for tolerance from all residents. Don't forget that you have the alternative option of moving into private rented accommodation - visit aub.ac.uk for more information.

Important stuff you need to know George Close houses are for first year undergraduate and postgraduate students only. All rooms are single occupancy only. The rent for rooms in George Close is £120.00 per week and this is payable termly in three instalments for undergraduate students and four instalments for postgraduate students. Please note that terms vary in duration, so rent payments will be higher in the Autumn and Spring terms and your student loan instalment may not cover the rent due. In addition to your rent you will also need to pay a deposit of £480.00 to secure your room. This will be returned to you at the end of the tenancy, minus any deductions for damages or fines. AUB operates a system of collective responsibility so you may be charged for damage to communal areas, in addition to any damage within your room. The undergraduate tenancy starts on 5 September 2016 and ends on 10 June 2017. The postgraduate tenancy starts on 19 September 2016 and ends on 11 September 2017. Tenancies are continuous - you do not need to vacate your room during vacation periods. You cannot end your tenancy early unless you find another student to take your place. You will need to provide a guarantor (usually a relative) who can confirm that they will be responsible for the rent and any additional costs (e.g. damages) in the event that the rent is not paid.

How to apply for a place in halls of residence Applications for a place in halls of residence open in early March. You must have firmly accepted your offer to study at AUB and will receive a message in your applicant portal to let you know that applications are open. The deadline for applications is Friday 27 May 2016. To apply for halls, complete all sections of the simple on-line application. If you are a care leaver or have a disability, please tell us about this in your application. We will prioritise applications from these students, but you will be asked to provide some form of evidence (for example, a medical report or letter from your social worker) to support your application. Undergraduate students can select a number of choices when making an application to AUB accommodation. Please note that not all halls are available to all students. Whilst we will do our best to allocate your choice of halls and room type, this is not always possible. Rooms are allocated at the start of June and, if you are successful in gaining a place, you will receive an email asking you to check the application website for details of your allocation.
