USING THIS COURSE MATERIAL

Introduction This course material is designed as a training and reference guide for using a web browser to access PageCenter Web Access. PageCenter is a report management system, which allows for the viewing, printing, indexing, short-term and long-term archiving and retrieval of printed output. Documents can be imported into the PageCenter system by directing them to a PageCenter printer in VPS. The system provides full control over document retention periods and storage. Documents are stored in a database defined using VSAM datasets. Long-term storage may be defined on disk or tape, and can be interactively restored.

Navigation PageCenter Web Access menu options required to get to the page displayed is noted in boldface below each screen image illustration.

Options for plug-ins, if permitted, otherwise you will not see these sections.

Printer Orientation

Since most host reports are laid out best for landscape, you might want to change the default orientation to landscape (for local print).

Install Plug-in

These links can be used to initially install the plug-ins needed, or later to update the plug-in (you will be prompted that there is a newer version available when you go to use them). These plug-ins will only work on a Windows workstation. Under Internet Explorer you can reply OPEN or RUN (under Netscape, SAVE and run saved file). Respond with affirmative responses to prompts.

Display Current Version

Either of these links will display the version installed and available for both plug-ins.

Click the “UPDATE” or “CANCEL” button when done.

BROWSE AFP

Double Click the pageset name to browse (with preference option: browse in new window set OFF)

AFP BROWSE • Documents are viewed and printed with their original electronic form. • Requires that Web Access administrator enable the use of the AFP plugin. • The user will need to install the AFP plugin (prompted at first logon).

FUNCTIONS AVAILABLE SIMILAR TO LINE DATA BROWSE, EXCEPTIONS:

• Additional options “Copy (to clipboard) as Bitmap” and “Copy as Text”. • “Save to File” has the format choices of bitmap, text (the variable data, not

overlay text) or AFP (AFP is for debugging purposes). • Some minor options differences on Find and Local Print (scaling &

positioning options, and an option to print all pages for a index value). • Clear Cache (The AFP, electronic form, resources are cached at the

workstation so only the text data has to be sent after the first page is viewed the first time).

• Rotate left/right: Sometimes the form is not aligned upright (due to design for production printing). You can rotate it upright for viewing.

The previous screen shots are for line data, but the functions are close (other than what is noted above).

BROWSE/PRINT OTHER FILE TYPES

Mailbox List | Application List

BROWSE/PRINT OTHER FILE TYPES (ALSO REFERRED TO AS BINARY OBJECTS OR BYTE ORIENTED OBJECTS)

• The required software (not supplied by LRS) must be available on the workstation to open the type of file selected. For example: Adobe Reader from Adobe must be installed to select and open a PDF file. Viewing and printing functionality will be provided by these products.

• Unlike text and AFP reports in PageCenter, the entire file is delivered to the workstation. A method for delivery of one page at a time, as needed, for PDF files is planned for the future.

A NOTE TO PAGECENTER ADMINISTRATORS • The proper technique must be used to insure the unaltered delivery of

binary objects, and identification of the file type, into PageCenter. For more information request the Tech Tip from your marketing representative: “PageCenter Byte-Oriented Objects”.
