Aaron Caruso Plays Carnegie Hall Tenor Aaron Caruso, who grew up in the Metro Detroit area, recently made his Carnegie Hall debut on Good Friday, April 10, 2009. “It was an honor to sing at such a place that Pavarotti, Gigli, et cetera, et cetera, have performed. It was a bit daunting and also a great honor,” he said. The concert was a “3 Tenors Performance” in honor of Mario Lanza. The set included Italian favorites, Torna a Surriento and O Sole Mio, as well as obscure beauties like the Sicilian dialetical Sicilia Beda, the Neapolitan Vurria and Volare. Tapping the great American songbook he offered evergreens like a dreamy An Affair to Remember and a Sinatra- esque reading of Fly Me To the Moon. His charismatic bantering engaged the room in a lot of audience participation and hand holding. The long set never bored and the crowds were on their feet several times. To boot, he has been chosen to portray Mario Lanza in the eagerly awaited Be My Love, slated for Broadway in the fall of 2009. “I was honored to be a part of a 3 Tenors concert for Mario Lanza. This year is 50 years since he passed away,” noted Caruso. “The night was dedicated in my heart to Damon Lanza who passed away not too long ago.” (Calendar continued from page 10)
