The year 2008 has seen a lot of ups and downs in the global scenario – our thek has not been an exception to that. Let us start with remembering our dear alumni Kamal Kumar Das (84,EE), who could not finally win the battle against Cancer in spite of all our prayers. Another depressing fact was to see our beloved alma mater in news, more than once, for all the wrong reasons – and the mail from the present students that followed in the thek asking for help in desperation was demoralizing! Looking at the brighter sides - BEC alumni network as a whole, and thek members in particular has been gracious in extending unimaginable support, not necessarily monetary only, to people in need – be it alumni or present students. At the same time they did not forget to enjoy life – our thek enjoyed the characteristic effervescent adda; reminiscence of good old times and legpulling was at its peak. We had about 72 alumni joining the thek this year– and a few very respected professors too followed suit –(to which a dear thek-member commented 'thek is now full of SIR-prises' )- amidst the welcoming cheer extended by their friends and students! We have seen some serious debate and discussion on contemporary issues – at the same time we heard lots of interesting stories from the good old times – 'Delhi Chalo', 'Gandiji – amake khoma karo', 'Baje Golpo 1, 2, 3' and so on and so forth. We played 'word association game' that lasted for almost three months – and each word contribution came with a beautiful background to make it more than just another drab word game! We had some versatile members coming up with generous dose of humour as well as constructive suggestions regarding technical and personal issues. A few of our members were in news to make us proud – whereas some made their mark in the literary and cultural field. We are proud of them….. Speaking of humour, we have seen lots of 'joke-e joke-e katha bola’! Story -1

Indira Gandhi assassination news had hit campus by midday 31st august 1984. Anirnabda, 1987 CE

joined the banwagon to see both Delhi and Late Indira Gandhi free of travel cost. This inspired

Naveen ( 88.5 Architecture, Hostel 7) and his associates to follow the suit the very next day. Probably

it was Deluxe ( now poorva) train. The co-passengers, whenever TTE asked for tickets, shouted in

chorus "" Indira Gandhi Amar Rahe". This was enough to motivate the TTE to leave the

Compartment. Naveen and Co. were impressed and quickly adopted this technology to ensure that

travel cost does not make any hole into their pockets.

But, this Dadagiri, in a short span of time, gave rise to more courageous and adventerous activities

to Naveen and his friends. They began to practise this with vendors. Taking some food items and

when asked for payment, they just use to say " Indira Gandhi Amar Rahe" and the vendors used to

get freightened enough. Therefore, Naveen was swimming in his newly discovered dream of pleasure

to exhibit the new found weapon in other sphere of life too in the course of the joyful journey.

It was Patna Staion in the evening time. Naveen and his two associates got down and took some

bananas from a Station Vendor. As usual they offered " Indira Gandhi Amar Rahe" on being asked to

pay. But, it was a different kind of land where this technology flopped. The Vendor warned to cough

up the due. Naveen & Co again used the "technology". But, this time few other vendors joined the

lone Vendor in a sign of solidarity. And Naveen and his friends were shown the " true bihari spirit"

with merciless beating on all parts of their body with whatever objects were available to the vendors.

Next day they returned from Patna with bruises all over and told the Story with pride.

It's a true story.
