ML Polo Update - Friday, February 6, 2015 - AM

Polo at Glance

IPC - Ylvisaker Cup. Since the beginning of the season, Enigma has improved at every sortie, and yesterday the team played the best it’s played so far, defeating Audi 16-10. It started well for Enigma stringing 6 goals to nothing on its opponent, two goals apiece from Jeff Hall and Carlucho Arellano in the first chukker, two more by Matias MacDonough early second. To its credit, Audi raised its game throughout the game, but that only galvanized the players of Enigma to raise theirs. In the second, Lucas Lalor and Fred Mannix scored one each for 6-2, but it was Jeff Hall early third who would set a new tone cutting the ball at angle in traffic for 7-2 Enigma. Nic Roldan had two magnificent, sort of 10-goal runs late third chukker for 7-4 at halftime, but again it was Carlucho Arellano who would raise his own game with a beautifully controlled, 135 yard run with Fred Mannix on his heels to score for 8-4 Enigma, which arguably turned a possible 7-5 play, just missed by Audi, into a 2 goal swing in favor of Enigma. Carlucho Arellano made his purpose clear shooting a huge 40 yard for 9-4 next. Audi scored two goals back for 9-6, but yet again it was Carlucho Arellano resetting the clock at 10-6 on a good 60 yard conversion to end the fourth. In the fifth, Nic Roldan had another fine run through the defense of Enigma for 10-7 and converted a 30 yard for 10-8, but once again Enigma was back on track with a play off the throw-in by Matias MacDonough for 11-8, then Carlucho Arellano following-up on trail blazing Jeff Hall for 12-8, and finally Matias MacDonough punching through Audi’s defense for another run from midfield and a new 5-goal lead, 13-8, with 3 seconds left in the chukker. Carlucho Arellano, solid all day, converted another 40 yard early 6th for 14-8, Audi countering with two goals, a 40 yard by Nic Roldan and a goal by Marc Ganzi, but Enigma would deny Audi any chance to a last minute comeback, Jeff Hall and Carlucho Arellano scoring a nice goal each for Enigma’s win 16-10. Four games today, see fields page 3, with a number of substitutes: - Peke Gonzalez for Robert Jornayvaz on Valiente- Matias Magrini (8) and Mariano Gracida (4) for Luis Escobar and Pelon Escapite on Gateway Merchants- and Geronimo Obregon playing for Andres Weisz on Lucchese

Grand Champions - See page 4 the schedule for all 3 tournaments for this week through next Tuesday.
