Tours of the museum will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27. Special attractions include Mike Johnson and his mule team and door prizes. is event is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Area Historical Society. 4-H Achievement Days fast approaching Members of 4-H are mak- ing final preparations for their annual Sanborn County 4-H Achievement Days which will be held Aug. 8-10 at the 4-H grounds in Forestburg. Every- thing from livestock to fine art to foods to electrical to pho- tography will be on display. Achievement Days are an op- portunity for local youth par- ticipating in 4-H to show off their hard work, and the public is invited to attend the activities on Friday and Saturday. On ursday, 4-Hers will en- ter their display exhibit entries through interview judging. Display entries are in a multi- tude of project areas including visual arts, electricity, foods, food preservation, horticulture, clothing, home environment, horticulture, hobbies and col- lections, safety, child develop- ment, poultry and eggs, plant science (crops) and wood sci- ence. During interview judg- ing, the judge will ask the 4-H member questions about their exhibit, and then explain the reasons for the ribbon awarded. Display exhibits will be avail- able for viewing all day Friday and Saturday in the 4-H Build- ing. Friday morning kicks off with the dog show at 9 am. From 9-11 a.m. is a livestock judg- ing contest that is open to our county 4-H members as well as 4-Hers from neighboring coun- ties. During the contest, 4-Hers will evaluate and place classes of beef, swine, sheep and goats. e contest also includes pre- senting oral reasons to explain their evaluation. Friday aſter- noon begins with Poultry Judg- ing at 1 p.m. Also kicking off at 1 p.m. is Rabbit Judging/Show- manship, followed by Compan- ion Pet Judging. Friday evening is our Com- munity BBQ, serving a deli- cious shredded beef sandwich meal from 6-7 p.m. Note that this is a change to the sched- ule as we have traditionally served the BBQ meal on Sat- urday night. You may purchase your tickets in advance or at the door. An optional treat is to have a piece of pie with your meal for a free will donation. Check out the 4-H member exhibits while you are there and then plan to watch the en- tertaining Ag Olympics from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to return for the community pancake breakfast served by area busi- nesses and our Sanborn Coun- ty Commissioners on Saturday morning from 7-9 a.m. e livestock shows begin at 8:30 a.m. in the show ring. Swine will be exhibited first, followed by goats, dairy and breeding sheep. ere will be a lunch break at noon, where grilled burgers and hotdogs will be served with SDSU ice cream, and showcase the 4-H members with a Parade of Purples in the 4-H Building. Aſter lunch, we return to the show ring for our rabbit/com- panion pet/poultry highlight show, and then move to the market sheep and beef shows. Each of the livestock shows will include a showmanship competition, and then at the conclusion of the beef show will be the round-robin show- manship contest. Senior level 4-Hers showcase their show- manship skills for showing all species in pursuit of the Grand Champion Round Robin Show- manship Award. meal that will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the håall next to the museum. Tours of the museum will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27. Special attractions include Mike Johnson and his mule team and door prizes. This event is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Area Historical Society.

4-H Achievement Days fast approaching Members of 4-H are mak-ing final preparations for their annual Sanborn County 4-H Achievement Days which will be held Aug. 8-10 at the 4-H grounds in Forestburg. Every-thing from livestock to fine art to foods to electrical to pho-tography will be on display. Achievement Days are an op-portunity for local youth par-ticipating in 4-H to show off their hard work, and the public is invited to attend the activities on Friday and Saturday. On Thursday, 4-Hers will en-ter their display exhibit entries through interview judging. Display entries are in a multi-tude of project areas including visual arts, electricity, foods, food preservation, horticulture, clothing, home environment, horticulture, hobbies and col-lections, safety, child develop-ment, poultry and eggs, plant science (crops) and wood sci-ence. During interview judg-ing, the judge will ask the 4-H member questions about their exhibit, and then explain the reasons for the ribbon awarded. Display exhibits will be avail-able for viewing all day Friday and Saturday in the 4-H Build-ing. Friday morning kicks off with the dog show at 9 am. From 9-11 a.m. is a livestock judg-ing contest that is open to our county 4-H members as well as 4-Hers from neighboring coun-ties. During the contest, 4-Hers will evaluate and place classes of beef, swine, sheep and goats. The contest also includes pre-senting oral reasons to explain their evaluation. Friday after-noon begins with Poultry Judg-ing at 1 p.m. Also kicking off at 1 p.m. is Rabbit Judging/Show-manship, followed by Compan-ion Pet Judging. Friday evening is our Com-munity BBQ, serving a deli-cious shredded beef sandwich meal from 6-7 p.m. Note that this is a change to the sched-ule as we have traditionally served the BBQ meal on Sat-urday night. You may purchase your tickets in advance or at the door. An optional treat is to have a piece of pie with your meal for a free will donation. Check out the 4-H member exhibits while you are there and then plan to watch the en-tertaining Ag Olympics from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to return for the community pancake breakfast served by area busi-nesses and our Sanborn Coun-ty Commissioners on Saturday morning from 7-9 a.m. The

livestock shows begin at 8:30 a.m. in the show ring. Swine will be exhibited first, followed by goats, dairy and breeding sheep. There will be a lunch break at noon, where grilled burgers and hotdogs will be served with SDSU ice cream, and showcase the 4-H members with a Parade of Purples in the 4-H Building. After lunch, we return to the show ring for our rabbit/com-panion pet/poultry highlight show, and then move to the market sheep and beef shows.

Each of the livestock shows will include a showmanship competition, and then at the conclusion of the beef show will be the round-robin show-manship contest. Senior level 4-Hers showcase their show-manship skills for showing all species in pursuit of the Grand Champion Round Robin Show-manship Award.
