THE RAJINDRA

Dear Students, The goal of all formal education is to make the student self sufficient in all aspects. In a country like India where the population has crossed the one billion mark, the race for jobs is becoming tougher and more competitive. Degrees are no more the only benchmark for employability. Students need to be proficient in soft skills and have the confidence to showcase them. An overall personality development will depend upon the student's participation on diverse platforms, provided by the college. This enhances creativity, communication skills, group compatibility, interpersonal skills, management skills and networking skills. These skills empower students and make them resilient. One such platform is the college magazine and those who availed this opportunity are showcased here. We hope more and more students will feel motivated to grab this opportunity that facilitates their comprehensive growth.

Happy Reading !!Prof. Gursharan Mann

As we know every person needs an opportunity or platform to represent his or her talent among other people. Govt. Rajindra College's yearly magazine appears as suitable platform where we students can easily express our thoughts. Every year our magazine reflects the diversity amongst college students and achievements in all fields. It mirrors the leadership and cultural as well as educational achievements. Students raise many topics and questions in our society through the medium of their writings. Therefore, as a student editor I am thankful for this golden opportunity that is provided every year for the students.

My story is related to a lady's situation in Punjab especially in Malvai society where still in this progressive era, girl is accepted as a curse not as a blessing. Hope you like it and may think about it single time...... When the whole family heard the news that a baby girl had taken birth in Sukhdev Singh's house, they were in shock. But after a few days they became little familiar with the girl and named her Kulwant Kaur. As time passed, she appeared as a mischievous girl with lot of tricks in her childhood. Now she had started her schooling. She took admission in a govt. school of the village because this was good for her according to her parents, while her brothers Manjit and Kulwinder took admission in convent schools. Eventually this was clear to everyone that Kulwant was better than both of her brothers not only in studies but also in co-curricular activities. Meantime, she was trained by her mother regarding the traditions and beliefs of the village. Finally, she was now a girl who understood her REAL responsibilities towards others. Later as time passed, her family members started to talk about her marriage and they were in the search of a suitable spouse for her. She wasn't aware about it at all. And one day Kulwant decided to talk to her mother about her further studies and she entered in her mother's room. Her mother wanted to talk to her that time and she started her conversation. "My dear baby, we know that you have trust on us and we have trust on your father's choice. The boy he has found for you is ‘good’. Kulwant replied " But mamma.... what about my stu........ she was to complete her word studies and she stopped. As all had decided, Kulwant was married to Subjit.

Her married life was not good because there were many differences in their opinion. Kulwant found all her expectations were dying before her and she could not do anything. After some time she gave birth to a baby in her father's house. Subjit didn't come there and when he came, he arrived with the panchyat and announced his decision that he just wanted to take the baby boy to his house not his wife. The whole panchayat tried to sort things out between them but finally they were divorced. After one year, Kulwant was trying to recover from all this, but every day at every occasion, she missed her baby and thought about her father and brother's decision that they didn't try to keep the baby with themselves because they were worried that nobody would marry Kulwant. But Kulwant was trying once again to restart her broken life. One day again she entered her mother's room to tell her that she wanted to recontinue her study. But again the mother and father started a conversation, " Kulwant, we know that life had played a cheap game with us. But what would happen with you after us? We want to see you happy in your own family and this is also true that no perfect man would agree to marry with you because of your past. So we have found a good man for you. He is a little older than you." Kulwant was sitting silently. She was thinking in her mind that what was her fault about her past. She came to know that the man she was going to marry, was having two married daughters the same age as Kulwant. So on the decided day, her marriage was done with simple ceremonies that simply implied the " funeral of her expectations."

In every country, the judiciary comprises the third and in many ways the most important organ of the government machinery. Widespread bribery of judges around the world and inappropriate political interferences in legal systems deny millions their rights to a fair and impartial trial. As many as 77% of Indians believe that the country's Judiciary is corrupt and 36% paid bribes to Judiciary last year. According to a global survey by Transparency International (I.T.), about Rs. 2630 crore was the amount Indians coughed up as bribes to the judiciary, higher than the bribes paid out in any other sector. The loss of confidence in judiciary is mainly due to the long gestation period of litigation, with crores of cases pending disposal. This back log leads to the long adjournments and prompts people to pay to speed up the process. According to the report as on Feb., 2006, 33,635 cases were pending in Supreme Court with 26 judges, 3.34 lakh cases in the high court with 670 judges, 2.5 lakhs cases in 13,204 subordinate courts. In 1999, it was estimated that at the current rate of disposal, of cases it would take another 350 years to depose of pending cases, says the report. People seek shortcuts through bribery and favours, leading to further unlawful behavior The judiciary is in fact the guardian of people's right. It protects these rights from encroachments by the Government, public bodies and individuals. There seems to be a nexus between the sudden fall in the credibility of judiciary and increasing politicisation of the process of appointment of judges in which lobbying in the corridors of power rather than knowledge of law and character was found to be quite effective. Unless the executive sheds its power of having the final voice in judicial appointments and transfers, the situation can not improve. Press council of India and the former Supreme Court judge and Justice Mr. Katju said "The most Chief Justices of India are reluctant to expose corruption in the judiciary, thinking that this will defame the judiciary, and so they prefer to bury corruption under the carpet, not realising that the bulge under the carpet will show". Rampant corruption in the lower courts in no secret. Sometimes, in high court as well, cases of corruption have surfaced. In Lower Courts it's alleged that every thing comes for a price. Rates are fixed for quick divorce, bail and other favorable verdicts. Judicial corruption exists because public trials are never heard by public. But Now, all the courtrooms are wired for Sound and all the court rooms are wired to the internet. The infrastructure to stop judicial corruption is in right place now. The only thing required is legislation mandating that the court posts all court proceeding on the internet. All court proceeding should be made public and anyone can purchase a tape of court proceedings .

At last, the much awaited moment arrived when my time machine was about to take off with all my gizmos and calculators, I set the date exactly three and a half decades from now i.e. 2050 and there I went with a red flash.... CLASH.... something went wrong ..... What was that ............ where was I wrong ?? OMG, It was future wonder coming true ! sky scaper buildings, air conditioned streets, hitech automobiles, robots and machines all around but............ something was missing. Where were humans ? Not a single trace of Homo Sapiens. From discussion of robots I reached at concussions. Due to carelessness of humans and their advancement in technology had put at stake Nature. All this had made earth hostile for them Despite the efforts of scientists of every corner of the world no living place for man. And thus humans were extinct now. What existed were only durable machinery and their machine operators robots. Angry and frustrated, I dated back to the present. To my surprise, I was also one of those who used LFC's, Co2, NO2 and other harm ful gases in my machine I myself also was one of those responsible for what I saw Awake, Arise to sustain your life.

"Laugh and the world Laughs with you, cry and you cry alone." As the Saying goes, why

should we remain alone in the vast crowded world . So we must Laugh from deep within.

As it says "A good Laugh is a sunstime in a house" So when we smile we feel light and

fresh. All tensions fly away. Laughter is known to be the best Medicine and science has

proved it. If you learn to see the funny side of things, Nothing can dishearten you.

Laughter is safe release of tensions. A person must pass all the tests in life with a smile on

his face. One must try to become humorous by reading humourous books and stories. It

helps one a lot. One should share one's jokes and titbits with others. This will help in the

release of tension because happiness shared is happiness doubled. Laughter always wins

you friends. Those who take life lightly and laugh the burdens off are liked by all. We must

make use of laughter to our full advantage and become tension free and bubble with

Mothers day is a modern day celebration honouring one's own mother and influence of

mothers in society. The celebration of mothers day began in united states in the early 20th

century. But now a days, mother's day is celebrated in several countries including US,

UK, India, Canada, China and Japan. It is similar as fathers day, Children day etc. It is a day

for many people to show their appreciation towards mothers. People take the day as an

opportunity to pay tribute to their mothers and thank them for all their love and support. It

is the best way to thank mothers because mothers play a very important role in children's

life. She herself bears many pains and troubles but she protects her children from all

troubles. So it is the responsibility of all children to celebrate that day. It is an annual event

but is held at different dates in the calender depending on the country. Children give

flowers, cards and other gifts to mothers on mother day. This day is very popular in other

countries but in India there is no need to celebrate this day because people give time to

their mothers and always show their love for them. It is unfortunate to note that Ms. Anna

Jarvis, who devoted her life for the declaration of Mother day holiday was deeply hurt to

note the huge commercialisation of the day.

Mother is a blessing for life. She brought us in the world. So we owe our whole life

to her.

Positive attitude is the result of positive thinking, positive ideas and coming with new solution .The way you think, day in and day out, effects all aspects of your life. Learning to listen to your 'internal voice' will help you recognize your thought patterns and also teach that how we handle our stressful situation of daily living. Many people have found that, when they tune into their internal voice, much of it is negative Thoughts like,"I could never do that" and "what if I fail"? can seriously impact the way you behave. Develop your positive attitude! Here are some ways to help you develop a more positive attitude:- listen to internal voice. Divide one or more sheets of paper into two columns. For a few days, write down in the left column all the negative thoughts that come into your mind. Rewrite each thought in a positive way in the second column. Practise doing this in your mind until it becomes a habit. For eg:- "I'll never get this finished by the and of the day!" could become,"i'll probably get most of this finished by the end of the day!" Learn to communicate. Not saying the things we feel can lead to sense of frustration, hurt, anger or anxiety. If you find communicating difficult or are afraid of arguments then without any waste of time, learn from the following Mountain Story.Mountain Story- An interesting short story"A Son and his father were walking on the mountains. suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams:"AAAHHHHH!!!"To his Surprise, he hears the voice repeating, Somewhere in the mountain."AAAHHHHHHH!!!"Curious, he yells:"Who are you?"He receives the answer:"Who are you?"And then he screams to the mountain:" I admire you!"The Voice answers" I admire you!"Angered at the response, he screams;" Coward!"He recieves the answer:"Coward!"He looks to his father and asks:"What's going on?"The father smiles and says:"You are a champion!"The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains:"People call this ECHO, but really this is life.It gives you back everything you say or do.Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more Competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything you have given to it." Your life is not a coincidence. It's a reflection of you!
