FROM THE DESK OF FR. MIKE On the great day of the Lord, when it comes, life will be totally different. The Prophet Isaiah tells us today that the impossible will happen. Natures’ enemies will live together in peace, and God’s call for salvation will be freely given to all-not just to one people or one nation. “Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them…” “There shall be no harm or ruin…for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the Lord…” “On that day, the root of Jesse, set up as a signal for the nations, the Gentiles shall seek out for His dwelling shall be glorious.” Salvation has indeed come to the whole world and to all races and nations. It comes not merely by being a natural born descendant of Abraham, but by hearing the voice of the Son of Man and producing much fruit. That is the call of John the Baptist in today’s gospel reading, as he shouts out “Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance” Truly we are called to prepare the way of the Lord in our hearts and in our souls. Make straight the highway of your life to receive Jesus, and allow nothing, no one, not even yourself to stand in the way of Jesus coming to you! Do not pride yourself on anything, thinking that you will be saved because you are a child of Abraham or even a member of the Church-for that was the problem of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Like them, if we do not follow Jesus’ law of love and make the gospel the center of our lives then we will be like the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire. Remember God has indeed given us much; therefore, we must bare much fruit. This Wednesday, December 8th, is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this wonderful day, we commemorate the Ancient TRADITION and the Church’s Teaching that the Blessed Mother from the moment of her conception in her mother’s womb was conceived without ORIGINAL SIN. She was given this particular privilege because she was to become the mother of the Savior of the World. Oh, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us! The Masses for this Holy Day of Obligation are: Tues. Evening Dec.7th at 7:30 PM, Weds. Dec. 8th, 7 AM, 9 AM, 12:10 PM, 5 PM, and

7:30 PM. Following the 7:30 PM Mass on Dec. 8th we will participate with the Church throughout the country with a Holy Hour for Life. This will occur from 8:20-9:20 PM with prayers said before the Exposed Blessed Sacrament and ending with Benediction. During this period of prayer, we will pray for an end of abortion, for all of the victims of abortion, and for the respect of all human life from womb to natural death. During the 3rd week of Advent, we will have 3 Evenings of Prayer and Reflection conducted by the parish priests. Mark your calendars of December 14th, 15th, and 16th. On the last night Thursday Dec. 16th, we will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation. These evenings will begin at 8 PM and should last about 45 minutes to an hour. Again, we are asking for pictures of your family to place on our Altar for Sunday December 26th, The Feast of the Holy Family-please send your pictures in to the Rectory care of Fr. Mike. On Sunday January 9th, The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, at the 12 Noon Mass we will invite back all of the children who were baptized here during the last year for a special blessing. Light refreshments in Carew Hall will follow this special Mass and Blessing. This wonderful event is sponsored by the Baptism Greeters. Next Saturday morning, Dec. 11th we will have Breakfast with St. Nicholas from 9-11:30 in Carew Hall. Call the Rectory for details-if you have not already sent in your response.

God bless you for all you do for St. Joseph’s Fr. Mike

RESPECT LIFE

The 15th Annual National Night of Prayer For Life will be celebrated here at St. Joseph’s on December 8th, the day the Catholic Church throughout the world celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Following the 7:30 pm Mass we will have a Holy Hour for Life (from 8:20 – 9:20 pm). During this time, before the exposed Blessed Sacrament, we will pray for an end to abortion. The rosary will be said, after which there will be Benediction. As this is an annual, nation-wide event, we urge everyone who can, to attend. Congratulations to Kings Park School District! As you know, every Spring Planned Parenthood holds what they call a Teen Health Conference at a local hotel, and high school students are urged to attend. Some districts bus in the children. An associate pastor of Kings Park’s St. Joseph’s Church objected to the students in his area going, and he wrote a letter to The Smithtown News. His letter prompted a response from the residents, and the following is taken from the October 7, ’04 edition, the article written by David Ambro: ‘‘Under pressure from residents, the Kings Park School District will no longer officially participate in the Teen Health Conference hosted by Planned Parenthood.” Although making it clear that the school district is a public educational institution open to all viewpoints, KPSD Superintendent Mary DeRose announced Tuesday, October 5, 2004 that the district will no longer bring students to the conference. She said the district will provide parents with information about the conference, and they can bring their children themselves.” Dr. DeRose said that two local women approached the School Board earlier this year and urged that the district promote abstinence and drop out of the PP Conference. One of those women was someone well-known in this area, Johanna Cervellino, who with her husband, Larry, has been active for years combating the lies promulgated by Planned Parenthood. In Father Davanzo’s letter to the Smithtown News he rightly points out that at this Health Conference, teens learn about oral contraceptives, the patch that delivers contraceptive hormones into the blood stream via the skin, which since its release in 2002 was responsible for 17 deaths in women ages 17 to 30, and the well-know RU-486 abortion pill, which also is responsible for a number of fatalities. Are these students being informed of these risks? Father Davanzo’s last paragraph bears repeating: “ Will Planned Parenthood, which prides itself on “choice”, hide comfortably and guiltlessly behind NYS law, and let our students fend for themselves, because that law requires no parental consent or involvement whatsoever, when it comes to underage girls obtaining either abortion or abortion-related drugs and products?”. Even Used Inkjet Cartridges, Have Their Uses

We have found a way to help St Joseph and keep those complicated pieces of plastic, metal and printed circuit boards out of the land fill. Drop them off (in a plastic baggie) when you come to mass. We will send them to a company who reuses them and gives the parish a bounty for each. One note, to clear confusion, if it is larger than a fist, it is not an inkjet cartridge!!!
