Award

The Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza Good Shepherd Recognition Award is given to a

priest working in the Archdiocese who continues to promote and foster comprehensive youth ministry on the archdiocesan deanery, or parish level.

On Sunday, July 30 at the Archdiocesan Youth Conference (AYC) closing celebration and Mass, Fr. Tom was presented with the Good Shepherd Recognition Award in recognition of his outstand-ing contributions in supporting youth ministry at Corpus Christi Parish. Fr. Tom said, “I accept this award for Claudia, Adriana, staff, volunteers and benefactors who help the youth. It is a team effort.”

Twenty one youth from our Parish attended the Youth Con-ference held in Houston last weekend and are pictured here with Fr. Tom.

We congratulate Fr. Tom and Adriana Guzman, Youth Ministry Leader, for supporting and leading this new ministry group in our parish.

Corpus Christi Parish Encuentro (Encounter)

Evangelization Process

We are excited to announce that our five hearing sessions of the V Encuentro (Fifth Encounter) are complete. Participation

ranged from 70 to 90 people per session.

Now we invite all parishioners to gather for an event called Parish Encuentro

Saturday, August 12, 2017 – Prefontaine Hall Starts at 9:30am and will finish with the 5:00pm Mass

As mentioned in previous bulletins, the V Encuentro (5th Encounter) is a United States Bishops’ initiative that invites all parishes to become part of a new Evangelization, where all of God’s people can share the joy of the Gospel by creating a culture of Encounter and living out the missionary nature of the Church that serves, above all, the poor and suffering as Pope Francis reminds us.

This Parish Encuentro will complete the process in our parish community but will continue with an Archdiocesan Encuentro where we will send ten delegates from our parish. This diocesan Encuentro will be followed by a regional event as well as a national Encuentro.

It is my hope to see everyone at this opportunity on August 12 to build community and to celebrate the company of each other!

FORMATION, REFLECTION & PRAYER Catechetical Modules - 2017

Corpus Christi Parish is pleased to host seven Catechetical Modules this summer. Catechetical Modules are an important part of

the Catechist Formation process. They are designed to provide formation and training in important catechetical methodology and pedagogy. All Modules will be held in Prefontaine Hall from 6:30pm – 8:30pm and at no cost to Corpus Christi Parishioners.

Corpus Christi subscribes to the website Formed.org and its contents are available to everyone in the parish. Formed includes Bible and faith study programs, movies, e-books, and talks. Use parish code 2TMRW6 to access Formed.org or download the Formed App.

Formed features many inspiring stories of holy men and women, some we all know and some we might not. One of the people you may not know about is Father Emil Kapaun, a priest from Kansas who perished during the Korean War in a POW camp. Fr. Kapaun's case for beatification is now working its way through the Vatican. In the documentary about him available on Formed called "The Miracle of Father Kapaun," we meet the soldiers who served with him in the War, and their eyewitness accounts of his Christ-like selflessness, integrity, and goodness. We also meet a Kansas teen, Chase Kear, who was healed of a life-threatening head injury when the Kear family prayed to Fr. Kapaun for help. Chase experienced a miraculous recovery that his doctors could not explain. Chase's extraordinary experience is being put forth as a miracle towards Fr. Kapaun's beatification cause.

HOLY HOUR

In a prayer of contemplation and Adoration of Christ present in the Eucharist, we prolong the grace of the mystery cele-brated. We intensify our union with Christ to become with Him and like Him, bread broken for a new world. Hoy, la fiesta de la Transfiguración del Señor, es día de testimonios de testigo ocular. El primero, una visión que el profeta Daniel reporta, era muy conocido por Jesús y sus apóstoles. Es una poderosa y memorable visión del cielo. Tiene llamara-

das de fuego, ruedas encendidas, el sabio anciano y el Hijo del Hombre. Es claro que Daniel vio algo. Pero, ¿fue un sueño? ¿Fue algo real? ¿O fue solamente un mito astuto?

¡Pedro no quiere que su visión sea confundida de igual manera! Nos cuenta el Evangelio de san Marcos lo que él y sus amigos Santiago y Juan vieron cuando subieron un día a la montaña con Jesús. Jesús les ordenó a los tres testigos que no dijeran nada hasta que "el Hijo del Hombre resucitara de entre los muertos" (Marcos 9:9). Por si los lectores del Evangelio dan por descontada la historia o simplemente la descartan como un mito piadoso, Pedro escribe su propia versión de la Transfigu-ración de Jesús en su segunda carta a la Iglesia. Escribe con autoridad, como testigo ocular. Reporta este mensaje de Dios referente a Jesús: "Este es mi Hijo muy querido, al que miro con cariño", y nos asegura que el mensaje es digno de "creer(se) firmemente"

PROGRAMA DE ENTRENAMIENTO VIRTUS

La Parroquia de Corpus Christi será anfitrión de dos sesiones de entrenamientos de VIRTUS en Sep-tiembre. Voluntarios que trabajan en cualquier capacidad con o alrededor de niños, los ancianos o adul-tos con necesidades especiales, es requerido que asistan a estos entrenamientos. Estos entrenamien-tos ayudan al clero, al personal, voluntarios y a padres a comprender los hechos y mitos acerca del abu-so sexual de niños; como operan los abusadores; y como los adultos que se preocupan pueden tomar cinco pasos importantes para mantener a los niños seguros. El entrenamiento inicial de Protegiendo a los Niños de Dios es válido por cinco años. El primer entrenamiento de actualización de Manteniendo

Viva la Promesa, es requerido dentro de 12 meses después del plazo de cinco años.

Se requiere registración previa y solo en línea www.virtus.org. Estos entrenamientos se ofrecen durante todo el año en varias parroquias arquidiocesanas.

Cinco años después de haber asistido al entrenamiento de “Manteniendo Viva la Promesa,” y solo por computadora o en línea, todos los voluntarios deben completar dentro de tres meses, el 20 entrenamiento de actualización de Protegiendo a los Niños de Dios. Para las personas que fallen en completar este entrenamiento en línea dentro del plazo de tres meses, tendrán como requisito asistir a otro taller en vivo de Protegiendo a los Niños de Dios.

la misa de las 5:00pm.

Como se mencionó en boletines previos, el V Encuentro es una iniciativa de los Obispos de los Estados Unidos que invita a todas las parroquias a ser parte de una Nueva Evangelización, en la cual todo el Pueblo de Dios puede compartir el gozo del Evangelio para crear una Cultura de Encuentro y para recordarnos a vivir la naturaleza misionera de la iglesia que nos llama a servir a los pobres y a los que sufren, tal y como el Papa Francisco nos invita a hacer.

Este Encuentro Parroquial terminara el proceso en nuestra comunidad, pero continuara a nivel diocesano, donde enviaremos diez delgados de nuestra parroquia. Al Encuen-tro Diocesano le seguirá uno regional y luego nacional.

¡Espero ver a todos en esta oportunidad del 12 de agosto para edificar comunidad y celebrar en la compañía de otras personas!
