In the last few years, there has been a resurgence of interest in card modeling, due partly to the sharp rise in the price of plastic, but mostly because of the dis- covery by the American hobbyiest of the high quality and beauty of contemporary models made from paper. The range of models offered in paper is surely the widest of any form of modeling. At this time about half of our models come from Europe, half from the U.S. and PMI now produces, here in America, it own line. There are the traditional hobbyist’s models: planes, ships and cars. There are scores of castle models, from the smallest idealized castle buildings to replicas of some of the largest and most elaborate castles in Europe. There are the typical country and town buildings found throughout Europe and America. The bird models are amazing in their lifelike reproduction. From the 1930’s and 40’s there are excellent reproductions of the cereal box premiums which were so wide spread that every child of that period will remember them. Model train enthusiasts will find buildings to go with the railroad scales O to Z. There is something here for every- one. People who wouldn’t think of building a model car or plane become entranced with the idea of making a romantic castle or a lovely bird. The quality is evident just seeing the printed sheets. The secret of the beauty is in the printing. The details are enhanced by the color artwork. On ships and planes the paint schemes and markings are already done correctly. The tools needed are few and simple -- a pair of scissors or hobby knife for cutting out the parts, a duller knife for scoring the fold lines, white glue for puting the parts together (thicker craft type is best), and perhaps a pair of tweezers for handling the smaller parts -- and that’s about it.
