SHREDDING DAY
Welcome to April! This month we are going to have a Vendor Open House. This was a suc-cessful event a couple of years ago and we are trying it again. A "vendor open house" is anevent where the Gulf Harbors Civic Association brings businesses you see often in theneighborhood together in one place so that you can meet them and ask them questions aboutthe services they provide. I hope that you will come and support this event which will beheld on April 14th at the Civic Center from 10 am to 2pm.
Additionally, on that day, we have scheduled a mobile shredding truck to be on site betweenthe hours of 10am and 12pm. I am very happy to announce that two of our local businesspeople have stepped up to sponsor the shredding truck. We extend a very big thanks to JudiPobst of Keller Williams and Kurt Lindeman of Construction Pros who were kind enoughto support the GHCA in this event.
So, remember that April 14th is our Vendor Open House and Paper Shredding event. The open house if from 10 to 2 and the shredding truckwill be there from 10 to Noon. As a further enticement we will be offering hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soda to everyone attending.
Please show your support for Judi and Kurt as well by letting them know you appreciate theirwillingness to support our community.

So what sets your home apart from all the other houses up for sale?Staging! What is staging? It is preparing your house to sell.According to a successful local staging company, “Dwell”, “Stagingis designing a home as a product. Interior Design is designing ahome for a person. “ They say there is an art to staging and a psy-chology to buying. We agree! The goal of staging is to get inside thehead and emotions of the person buying the home and press thoseemotional buttons that say, “This it home. Let’s write an offer now”!The bottom line, the way you live in your home and the way you sellyour home are two different things. Let’s face it, we become accus-tomed to our own stuff; we just don’t’ see it clearly anymore. Abuyer comes in with fresh eyes and sees everything: the good, thebad, and the cluttered. You don’t have to hire a professional stager(although it certainly does help), you can follow a few essentialsteps to help your home stand out in today’s market:1. Clean Clean Clean: The first step to staging is clean. A top stag-ing consultant I knew always said, “You can’t sell it if you can smellit”! This is inside and out. Remember that first impressions are last-ing!2. De-Clutter: This one is simple. De-clutter everywhere; insideand outside. Sellers need to make that all important mental conver-sion from "home to live in" to "house for sale." Personal things area big distraction as you want the buyers to be able to visualize theirown belonging in the house.3. Repair: Buyers want everything working so don't disappointthem - dripping faucets, broken windows, leaking roofs, damagedwalls and doors, etc, beg the question in the buyer's mind...Whatelse is broken or doesn't work? Doing a pre-inspection prior to sell-ing can help you plan problems out of the system.4. Paint: A fresh coat of paint is the least expensive way to make ahuge difference on how your house shows. And smells!5. Hire a Professional stager to Help! According to the Real EstateStaging Association, Stagedhomes.com, and Homegain.com, here’swhy:• Staged homes sell 70% FASTER than unstaged homes,• For 10% MORE MONEY • ROI (Return on Investment) for home staging is up to 850% andIt costs SUBSTANTIALLY LESS than a price drop!Changing "lived in homes" into "houses for sale" is what it's allabout.
Here’s the Year-to-Date real state statistics. We’re are expectedanother red hot year in Real Estate in Gulf Harbors! Check out thestats below – and you’ll see some house sell much faster than oth-ers? Could staging be one of the keys?
Stat’s here (or on separate page!)
April is the perfect time for SPRING CLEANING! Even if youaren’t thinking about selling your home – it’s always the right timeto think “Out with the old…. In with the new!” Hot Tip – if you arethinking about holding a garage sale to get rid of some of that “clut-ter”, we have a supply of garage sales signs you can borrow for theevent! Give us a call and we’ll reserve them for you!
We will see you around the neighborhood!

Ewwwwww – REALLY? I have ahard time with this one because tome (and I think most people!), it is simple consid-eration for others. I’ve had 3 people ask me towrite again about picking up after your dog. I can’tbelieve it’s such an issue, but apparently it is – and
apparently all over the ‘hood – all the way from West Shore to ShellStream. Dog poop is NOT a good fertilizer and it attracts bugs andwashes out to the Gulf we all like to play in. Please, please – don’tleave home without a poop bag! Even if your dog just “went” beforeyou left, oftentimes the smell of other dogs on a walk get them excitedand they have to “go” again. And don’t let them out your front doorwithout supervision – because very likely that’s what they are doing– relieving themselves on someone else’s lawn. If you can’t bringyourself to pick up after your pet, please have them do their businessin your yard – not someone else’s.
TOADS! ‘tis the season! It’s getting warmer and the rains will becoming and already I’ve been hearing reports (and have seen themmyself) of the Bufo toads. There are a lot of new people and pets inGulf Harbors—if you’re new and you don’t know about Bufo orGiant Marine toads, please educate yourself on them. Pet interactionwith them can be deadly in a very short time and there are plenty ofthem here in the ‘hood. Please discourage your dog (and cat!) fromchasing lizards since this behavior often leads right to where the toadsare hanging out – in the bushes especially near drain pipes and damp-ness but not always! Forewarned is forearmed!
Pet of the Month This month’s Pet of the Month, Lucy, has avery special place in my heart. She belongsto Marty Pappas of Floramar Terrace, whohelps me tremendously in my pet sittingbusiness – doing almost all evening andmorning home visits for me. I’ve knownMarty for a long time and in fact she was one of my first customerswith her previous dogs River & Lilly and her cat Phyllis. After Marty’s two dogs passed away on the same day, and her catbefore that, all of a sudden, her house was very quiet--too quiet. Shewas thinking about getting another dog but was waiting for the rightopportunity. As fate would have it, her friend was staying at theQuality Inn here in New Port Richey while the friend’s house wasbeing renovated. She noticed a pickup truck in the parking lot withfurniture in the back and a little dog locked inside the cab. This wasSeptember 2014 and it was a very hot day. She went to the front deskand called police immediately. Apparently, the truck and dog had beenabandoned there. Police busted out the window and there was thislittle dog, who police estimated had been in the truck for 24 hours ormore. One friend on the scene said he had never felt any creature, human or otherwise, feel THAT HOT. I would think that little onedidn’t have much time left. Her friend, knowing Marty was ready toadopt another dog, called her and it was love at first sight.
Lucy has been an incredible dog – full of love and funny antics. Sheis one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen (and I get to see a bunch!).She has the sweetest disposition and often throws herself on her backinviting a belly rub. She has a terrible time holding her licker. 😉
Pet Cornerby Lisa DePew
Marty also works a shift for Home Shopping from her home andLucy is very quiet and patient while Marty is working on the phone.Maybe it’s from being so darn hot in the truck, but Lucy does notlike to walk when she gets too hot – she just refuses to continue –and I guess with good reason.
Sometimes when Marty travels, Lucy comes to my house and lovesbeing around the other dogs – never aggressive and is genuinelyvery likeable and well behaved. Going back to Marty’s previousdogs – what I find so very strange is that if those 2 (their names wereRiver, male grey poodle mix and Lilly, female black standard dachs-hund mix) would have been able to have a puppy together (and no,they couldn’t have - both were spayed/neutered, but if they COULDhave), their offspring might have looked a lot like Lucy. And theyall 3 have the same loving, peaceful temperament that I think theyget from their “mom”. Lucy was very lucky to be adopted byMarty, Marty was very lucky to have such a wonderful dog comeinto her life and I am very lucky to know/have known them all.

Rainbow BridgeMolly, beloved Lab mix of Linda & Marty Rasp ofFloramar Terrace recently left for the Bridge. I knewMolly personally and will always remember how shewould try to block your way if you tried to turn aroundtoo soon on her walk. She was a gentle giant for sure. She was a wonderful dog who will be sorely missed byher people and feline sisters.
Peso, Rat terrier- Jack Russell-Aussie mix of WestShore Drive also made the trip to the Bridge. Thissweet little girl lived to be almost 20 years old thanksto the wonderful care from her person Bob Cornetteall of these years. I knew Peso personally too andwill always remember her spunkiness up until thelast few months of her life – well even then she hadher moments! She was an amazing little dog and will be terriblymissed by Bob and by her canine sister Mia
