Cheokas received 5,770 votes (52.36%) to Brown’s 5,249 votes (47.64%). Cheokas received a majority of the votes in Marion Coun- ty and Schley County, while Brown received the majority in Chattahoochee County and Sumter County. The county-by-county vote to- tals are below. * Marion County: Cheokas - 1,236; Brown - 936. * Schley County: Cheokas - 935; Brown - 328. * Chattahoochee County: Cheokas - 343; Brown - 362. * Sumter County: Cheokas - 3,256; Brown - 3,623. This was a rematch of the 2012 election for District 138. In 2012 Cheokas edged Brown by only 208 votes (50.65%). The students got a red ribbon to wear all week long. Each ribbon had a number on the back and every day 29 numbers were chosen. Those wearing a ribbon with the chosen numbers were given the choice of a t-shirt, candy bag, or pair of ear buds as prizes. The event was funded as part of the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) grant through Schley County Family Connections Collaborative. Tracy Elliot was in charge of the Red Ribbon Celebration. The NFP provides drug awareness and serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
