Shop Locally & Save...We Offer Lowest Prices Asked how they respond when questioned about their friendship by former teammates and friends, both players said they have moved on since high school. “I just tell them that was high school and this is college,” Fern said. “It’s a whole different ballgame.” With one year left to play at the junior col- lege level, both are looking forward to continu- ing their baseball careers at a four-year school. They have not ruled out the possibility of attend- ing the same school either. “It could happen,” Fern said. “We’ve talked about it. It would be pretty cool.” Added Schrader, “That’s the plan. That would be pretty sweet.” TEAMMATES: From Page 1B 1999. The Bulldogs advanced to the second round of region- als for the first time ever and came within two rounds of a state berth. “It was a good run,” Hin- kle said. “They wanted the whole thing, of course.” Individually, Sarah Vande Berg (first team) and Chelsea Smith (second team) advanced to the state tournament. Smith graduated, but Vande Berg will be a junior. Also making the all- conference list as a third-team- er was Debbie Herlan, a Ger- man exchange student. In all, 12 track and field athletes (six boys, six girls) from Zephyrhills were voted to All-SAC squads. Heading the girls list were first-teamers Kathryn Patton (discus and shot put) Jameishia Parker (long jump) and Lind- say Arnold (100 and 300 hur- dles). The others were 400 relay runners Jessica Plummer, Ju- lia Hines and Alex Viera, who were joined by Arnold on the third team. As for the boys, Jamal Rob- erts (100 and 200), Jordan Lyles (high jump) and the 400 relay team of Tyler Pohjolainen, Gar- rick Virtue, Cody Van Buren and Marc Avadikian made the All-SAC second team. Three baseball players made all-conference. Outfield- er Michael Wilson headed the Zephyrhills trio as a first-team- er. Infielders Nick Masartis and Casey Yingling were named to the second team. Zephyrhills had a lone rep- resentative on the boys weight- lifting team in honorable men- tion Michael Peterman. AWARDS: From Page 1B “All of that is secondary rightnow. My season is still going on here.” It certainly is as the Seminoles open Sat- urday against Texas Christian in the CWS with Parker expecting to play a significant role in the Noles’ pitching rotation. He entered the CWS with a 4-1 record, 4.94 ERA and 64 strikeouts in a team-leading 28 appearances. Parker tossed three scoreless innings in his start Sunday against Vandy, striking out four and allowing just one hit. He pitched one inning in the College World Series his freshman year against Miami. With the CWS berth on the line in the win- ner-take-all third game against Vanderbilt, Park- er took the mound and left his nerves in the club- house. “I’m the guy that loves that situation,” Park- er said. “The coaches know that and they put me out there.” All of that started on the baseball diamonds in the Dade City Little League and Zephyrhills High School. “It’s been a great experience starting all the way back in Little League and through high school at Zephyrhills,” Parker said. “You never think about how far you’ll go. Look at me now.” PARKER: From Page 1B the football coaches and base- ball coaches twice. Once re- placements are found for wres- tling, boys track and boys soc- cer, those positions will be re- placed a second time. “I feel very strongly all the coaching changes at Zeph- yrhills High during the 2009- 2010 school year are a fluke,” Van Gorden said. “We had some coaches that retired after decades of service. I had others get promotions in their career or are striving for career ad- vancements. “All these factors are crea- tures of circumstance.” COACHES: From Page 1B
