EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
The Kentucky Mountain Regional Recreational Authority is nowtaking applications for the position of Executive Director. The goalof KMRRA is to increase economic development, tourism andoutdoor recreation for residents of and visitors to our Appalachianarea. The applicant must reside in the 35-county area in EasternKentucky that is listed in legislation. The salary will start at $75,000.The authority has created a selection committee that includes theDepartment for Local Government (DLG).
The committee will select the most qualified applicants forinterviews. Applications and resumes must be submitted to DLG.Attached is the job description and details for application.Executive Director
The Kentucky Mountain Regional Recreation Authority(KMRRA) was created to establish, maintain, and promote arecreational trail system throughout East Kentucky. The goal is toincrease economic development, tourism, and outdoor recreationfor residents of and visitors to Kentucky’s Appalachian region. Theperson hired will serve as the chief administrative officer in chargeof a broad range of duties including the following:• Must be a resident of the KMRRA region.• Work with the KMRRA’s board of directors to developrecommendations to achieve board goals.• Represent the Authority at various conferences and meetings.• Manage and supervise all aspects of the Authority’s operations toachieve goals with available resources.• Prepare and analyze comprehensive reports, carry out assignedprojects to their completion, and establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships with employees, company officials and thepublic.• Provide leadership and direction in the development of short andlong-range plans.• Communicate official plans, policies and procedures of theAuthority to various other commissions, civic groups, media, landowners, and the general public.• Advise the board of current financial conditions and future fundingneeds.• Prepare and submit a preliminary annual Authority budget andadminister budget once adopted.• Monitor revenues and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control.• Assure effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel,materials, facilities and time.• Explore additional funding sources to achieve Authority goals.Education & Experience• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, humanresources, economics, or a closely related field. (Preferred but notrequired.)• Two (2) years of experience as a director or chief executive officeror equivalent combination of education and experience.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities• Trail development and maintenance.• Basic knowledge of the travel and tourism industry.• Knowledge of basic law enforcement practices.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.• Operative knowledge of personal computer (including wordprocessing and spreadsheet programs, internet and email), calculator,telephone, copy machine and fax machine.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described arerepresentative of those that must be met by an employee tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonableaccommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilitiesto perform the essential functions. The employee will occasionallybe required to walk; use hands and finger, handle or feel objects,tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and drive anautomobile. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision and the ability to adjust focus. The typical work environmentwill be an office setting, but outdoor activity is required.
Salary: The starting salary will be $75,000. Future raises will bebased on job performance and will be reviewed annually by theAuthority Board. The Authority provides employees with a full rangeof employment benefits.
