Research & Development Cell

Research & Development cell has been established to carry out applied research, innovative techniques to solve industry related technical problems and also to contribute to the society needs. Some of the important projects are as follows

Wrist Band Operated Wheel Chair with Home Appliance Control :This project aims at designing a wheelchair that would enable the physically challenged persons to move on their own with minimum effort. The model is designed such that a band tied in the wrist of the person will be controlling the movement of the wheelchair..

Monitor and Control of Environment for Green House Using Sensor Networks :Microcontroller based monitor circuit used to monitor temperature, humidity, soil moisture and sun light of the natural environment. The controller communicates with various sensors

modules in real time to control the parameters inside the greenhouse by actuating a cooler, fogger, dripper and light respectively in accordance with the conditions for the plants.

Surveilance Rover: A 6 wheel chassis has been opted for a better traction and 12V DC 100rpm motors are used. Shaft Encoders with 20 slots per rotation were used for distance measurement, which were fixed on the front end wheels. Two cameras were used one for live streaming and the other for taking videos and photos, both the cameras have a 360degree view and also a night view.

Design and Fabrication of Automated Wet Grinder: The project aims at automating the manual works of a wet grinder so as to facilitate aged people and the physically challenged to make an effective use of the machine with less manual effort.

Automated Coconut Husk Remover: The project is aimed at minimizing the human effort and consumption of time in dehusking the coconut shell which is a laborious process at present. By using this setup, processing the coconut and husking for different purposes can be done immediately.

Page 20: Page 105 of

Design of Low cost semi-automated ground nut harvester :This project aims to eliminate the labour problem during the peak seasons and to reduce the time taken in groundnut harvesting. The groundnut harvester consists of a soil loosening tool, a pick conveying mechanism and gatherer windrower. The soil loosing tool consists of a picker blade with

sharp edge at the front end. Picker hook is mounted on the picker bar. It is used to facilitate the conveying mechanism. At the rear a gatherer windrower conveying crop. This picker machine is mounted at the front end of a tractor and power is taken from a separate IC engine.

Design and Fabrication of Garlic peeler: The removal of the cloves from the bulb and the peeling of

the skin are done by the traditional methods. They are either removed using a knife or by shaking the bulb vigorously inside a container. This process is time consuming and less hygienic in the pickle industries. The peeling machine so far used is highly expensive and very huge in size. The machine designed now simplifies the jobs of removing the cloves and peeling the skin
