Once the spring season is over, we will begin transferring chemical tanks from the other Defiance facility to the new facility. We can then complete the installation of the chemical plumbing to the loadout bay inside the building. A Saferack loading system has been purchased to assist in loading product over the top of the tender trucks to help in preventing any slips and falls in the new building. Some concrete approach work will also need to be completed on both ends of the building. A painting crew has been hired to paint the 1 million gallon tank that will hold Liquid 32% Nitrogen. The new water well has been dug and will soon be linked into the other existing well on the Defiance property. NEW ADDITIONS…... JOE KLEIN…comment by Chris Behrens. I was checking out after shopping at Wal-Mart a couple of

weeks ago and I had a FSC logoed shirt on. The lady at the checkout asked if I worked at the Denison location. I informed her that I worked in Harlan but knew the people at the Denison location. She said, “I wrote a big check to FSC the other day because of Joe. He came out to our place and told us we should be getting better corn yields. If we put on lime and more NH3 we would have better soil and we should expect more bushels. So we decided to do just that, I really like Joe.” I thanked her for the business and went on my way. Great job Joe!

CENEX AND FSC TEAM UP FOR WARRANTY….by Chris

Behrens. Last week the Energy Division paid out a Cenex Total Protection Plan (TPP) warranty claim. It was on a new piece of equipment for Dean Schwab. A few years ago Dean bought the Total Protection Plan warranty for his Holland tractor. After completing the paperwork and submitting two oil samples the tractor was protected. Then early this year Dean had an issue with the bearings on the front hub on the tractor. FSC collected a sample of the lubricant, sent it to Cenex for testing and had Dean repair the tractor. The warranty covered all the repair expenses. Doug Svendsen presented Dean with a check for the amount of $7,372. Dean’s

comment; “this saved me a substantial cost in repairs, especially now with the farm economy as tough as it is”. All this coverage for just $99. The TPP warranty is backed by Cenex and is second to none in the industry; just ask Dean if it is worth it. For more information on the warrantee, please call the Energy office at 800-973-3450 and ask for Mark Martens or Doug Svendsen.

MAY IS BEEF MONTH….Beef cattle production is one of the

strongest agricultural industries within the United States and throughout the world. From the farmers and ranchers to the processors, thousands of people play an integral role in the journey of beef from the field to the market. We celebrate all those involved in the process throughout May with National Beef Month.

Texas is the top producer of beef in the U.S., followed by Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

There are more than 94 million head of beef cattle being produced by 1 million beef producers in the U.S. Of these operations, 97 percent are family-owned.

There are 50 breeds of beef cattle in the U.S. The most popular are Hereford, Angus, Brahman and Charolais.

The basic cuts of beef are the chuck, loin, rib and round. Names for the cuts of meat can vary from region to region.

One serving of beef is 3 ounces and provides more than half of your required protein for the day. It is also a source of all the necessary amino acids.

The U.S. provides 25 percent of the world’s beef, but only has 10 percent of the world’s cattle. In 2009, the average annual per capita consumption of beef was 61.1 pounds.
