Principal’s Report Amanda Williams FPS fun and activities for week 5 This week the school has been a buzz with excursions to the Museum for Year 4s, Musica Viva performing in the hall for all grades, ginger bread people being made in the Prep area and of course maintaining our usual programs of learning. School Council Sub Committees have also been meeting this week and working on strategies to improve our facilities, processes and communications. On behalf of the staff and students, I would like to thank the many parents and carers who help to support these activities by lending a hand and putting in a significant effort for our school. We value your time and effort in helping to create a great community feel and sense of support for outstanding education for FPS. Scarecrows in our veggie patch You may have noticed a scarecrow in our veggie patch. His name is Grahame and he was built by our gardening team. During lunch time a group of happy gardeners have been working with Grahame, our maintenance man, to revitalise our vegetable garden beds, plant seeds and create a scarecrow. If you wish to donate any seeds or seedlings, our gardeners would be most appreciative. Please see Grahame (the real one- not the scarecrow) for any donations. MP Danny Pearson to visit the with students Today students from the Grounds Working Party will be having lunch with Danny Pearson to outline plans for the upgrade of our playground. We are looking forward to hearing how he might be able to support our school and community with these plans. School Uniform We are proud of our school and we are proud of our uniform. We encourage students at all times to wear it. If your child wishes to wear an overcoat to school because he/she is cold then of course this is ok. Please note that we do sell a warm school overcoat/jacket and this can be purchased from the uniform shop that is open on Monday 3.15-3.45pm and Friday 8.45-9.15am. We ask parents to encourage children to wear the correct uniform every day. Communication at FPS Just a reminder that we are always working to improve how information is shared with our community. Your feedback is valuable and can be given via both the Parent Opinion Survey (DET survey sent to randomly selected parents) and the Communication Survey (created by the Communications Sub Committee). We encourage you to participate in the surveys and provide constructive feedback that will support improvement. www.surveymonkey.com/r/FPSComms Disco fever hits FPS Tomorrow evening our FPS hall will turn into a Disco. This much anticipated event is organised and run by the Hub and supported by a huge team of volunteers. A huge thank you to our disco queen Janine and her team who have spent time organising this event. Due to the hall set up for the Disco, assembly will be held outside this Friday. PE News Alex Klewer

District Athletics: Date: Monday 20th August, 2018 Time: 9.30am-3.00pm Venue: Aberfeldie Athletics Track, 20 Corio Street, Moonee Ponds A big congratulations to over 200 students across 3-6 who tried out for various athletic events.

52 students have now been chosen to represent FPS at the annual District Athletics Carnival. The Athletics Carnival is one of the biggest events on the PE calendar! Students who have made the team are encouraged to train at home, where possible. There will also be some school based training sessions over the next few weeks. All parents are welcome and encouraged to come along on the day and support the school. I am still looking for a parent helper with a current Working With Children Check to come along and help out on the day. Please let me know if you are free. Help Wanted: Are you good at putting Ikea items together? Then, I have the job for you! I am after a few parent helpers to put together 2 Soccer Goals. The goals have instructions and tools, I just need someone with some time (before or after school) and patience to put them together. If you are interested in helping out, please let Alex know. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The BBQ sausages were VERY popular last year at Science Night. So, if you can help with this year’s BBQ, please contact us via the email [email protected] or approach us in person. It can be difficult for us to approach people directly to ask for assistance, so we rely on you coming forward. If a lot of us can do a little… No prior experience needed, just enthusiasm. Term 3 HUB meeting – Monday 20th August, 7.30 in the staff tearoom. As always, everyone is welcome to attend, and you won’t be cornered into organizing everything – though if it does go quiet and everyone is staring at you, you may feel you want to raise your hand (hehehe)
