Traditional solutions to drainage problems often require significant upfront expense and labor to install. Plus, many of them will fail over time as they become clogged or broken through the natural compaction of soil. Pro’s Choice® is a lasting solution that requires minimal upfront labor and cost. These products work to reduce compaction and do not break down over time, providing a long-term, economical solution. Professional groundskeepers trust Pro’s Choice to manage moisture even in the most adverse weather conditions. Pro’s Choice products have a very high liquid holding capacity due to their superior internal pore volume. When combined with our thermal optimization process that drives moisture out, Pro’s Choice is left ready to absorb moisture quickly. Unlike sand or stone, the product’s natural capillary action quickly wicks water away and holds it, gradually re-leasing it over time. Plan Your Trench: Each 50 lb. bag after compaction = approximately 1.35 cubic feet. Using the example of a 25 foot long x 4” wide trench backfilled with 7 inches of Pro’s Choice, use the following calculation to find out how much product is needed: 25 ft (L) x .33 ft (W) x .58 ft (D) = 4.785 cubic feet required In this case you would need 3.5 bags to fill the 25 ft. trench. While an outlet is ideal, it is usually not necessary, as the length of the trench usually provides enough volume that an outlet is not critical. Build Your Trench: Follow these three easy steps: Step 1: Determine the number of trenches you will need for your area and mark
out placement. Every inch of depth in your trench, water will be pulled from 1 foot on either side of the trench. A 6 inch deep trench would require a trench every 12 feet. However, a trench a few inches in from the grass edge of a skinned infield will provide excellent drainage.
Step 2: Dig or use a walk-behind trencher. The size of your trench can vary. Many
of the walk-behinds will cut a trench about 4 inches wide and 8 inches deep.
Step 3: For best results, make sure that the trench has at least a 1% slop from be-
ginning to end. A 25 foot long trench would have a pitch of at least 3 inch-es (25 feet x .01 = .25 or 3 inches).
Step 4: Backfill all but the top1” inch of your trench(es) with Pro’s Choice condition-
er. Then add 1 inch of top soil to grade (for turf area) or 2”-3” of infield mix (for skinned area).

Measure area you want to work and figure how many mound bricks you need. Laying flat one mound brick (8” x 4”) equals 32 square inches x 2-3/8” deep. Here is a guide for doing the full size areas below one layer deep, laying flat: For regulation mounds: 180 mound bricks - for a 34” x 60” mound top platform (63 bricks), 32” x 36” stride area (36 bricks), and 3’ x 6’ landing area (81 bricks). For two regulation batter’s boxes and one catcher’s box: 308 mound bricks - for each 4’ x 6’ batter’s box (108 bricks), for a 43” x 68” catcher’s box (92 bricks). For little league mounds: 74 mound bricks - for a 20” x 40” mound top platform (23 bricks), 24” x 28” stride area (21 bricks), and 20”’ x 48” landing area (30 bricks). For two little league batter’s boxes and one catcher’s box: 216 mound bricks - for each 3’ x 6’ batter’s box (81 bricks), for a 36” x 48” catcher’s box (54 bricks). For ASA softball pitcher’s area: 905 mound bricks for a 16' diameter circle, or 135 mound bricks for a 3' x 10' area, or 180 bricks for 4’ x 10’ area, measuring one foot behind the rubber and 9' in front. For two ASA softball batter’s boxes and one catcher’s box: 569 mound bricks—for each 3’ x 7’ batter’s box (95 bricks), for a 8’5” x 10’ catcher’s box (379 bricks). DIRECTIONS: Dig down 3-4”, install mound bricks, water (letting water soak in), tamp, cover with infield mix, re-place as needed. CAUTION: 12 Mound Bricks = approximate volume of one 50 lb. bag of mound clay compacted. Mound bricks are easier and cleaner to use than bags; but, remember you are paying to ship water. 300 bricks = 36 (50 lb.) bags by weight but only 25 bags by volume. Another option is using PERMA-MOUND™ Permanent Pitcher’s Mound Pads and SAFE “T” MATT SYSTEM™ Batter’s & Catcher’s Box Pads which bury 2” below surface and give the feel of properly maintained clay.
