The objective of the celebra- tion is to make people more aware of and also for the preservation of cultural her- itage and monuments. STATE TIMES NEWS NEW DELHI: A four-day festival showcasing art, culture, cuisine, hand- icrafts and handlooms of northeastern region will be held for the first time in Varanasi. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said, 'Destination North East' festival, which will begin in the temple town of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, will exhibit the striking similarities between Ganga and Brahmaputra basins in terms of ancient culture, diverse handlooms and silk products, spiritual heritage and vibrant tourist hubs. "The idea of organising such an event is to bring the rest of India clos- er to the Northeast and to have experi- ence of rich culture of the region," Singh told reporters in New Delhi. The Union Minister for Development of the Northeastern Region (DoNER) said all-round progress of the Northeast is the priority of the central government ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge five years ago. Varanasi is Lok Sabha constituen- cy of Modi. All eight Northeastern states will participate in the event, to be held at IIT (BHU) ground, to display their handicrafts, handloom, organic prod- ucts and cultural troupes. During the festival, the visitors will have live expe- rience of the artisans and artistes from Northeast working on their looms and crafts, performing folk songs and dances in open stage. Indigenous games will also be performed where vis- itors can also participate. Live kitchens with recipes from Northeast and Uttar Pradesh will be serving delicacies throughout the festival, organised by the Ministry of DoNER. According to Singh, music is the soul of the Northeast and the festival will have megastars from the regions as well as other parts of the country lend- ing their voices and talents to the event. Renowned band 'Shillong Chamber Choir', singers Papon, Sourabhee Debbarma, Borkung Hrangkhawl and Rekha Bhardwaj are some of the voices who are likely to per- form, while several actors from Bollywood are also expected to attend the fest. Given the importance of Northeast vis-a-vis organic products, food pro- cessing, tourism, water development and seminars will be held every morn- ing during the festival with participa- tion of experts in the respective fields. The minister said a separate bamboo pavilion would also be a part of the 'Destination North East' festival. Singh, who will inaugurate the festi- val, informed that a business-to-busi- ness session had also been scheduled on one of the days for business communi- ties to explore opportunities in north- eastern States. The DoNER minister also launched theme song of the festi- val. Single Use Plastic Ban: DIPR organises symposium STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education, Attal Dulloo on Friday held a meet- ing here to discuss the modali- ties for the operationalization of Medi-cities and Health Care Investment policy. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Director Health Jammu, Dr Renu Sharma, Director New Medical College, Dr Yashpal Sharma, MD SIDCO, Ravinder Kumar, Joint Director Planning, Madan Lal and other concerned officers. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan along with other concerned participated in the meeting through video conferencing. The Financial Commissioner directed the officers to speed up their efforts to operational- ize the guidelines for the approval and finalization of the prestigious projects. He direct- ed the officer to work in tan- dem so that land is transferred to the Health Department for establishment of the twin Medi-cities. Div Com Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan informed the meeting that he has written to the concerned Deputy Commissioner to authenticate the land with proper coordi- nates for the project. Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the availability of land for promoting medical tourism in Jammu and Kashmir for which proper loca- tions shall be identified at both the divisions. Requirements for health care investments in terms of the operational things were also discussed. The meeting was informed that land will be made available by SIDCO as per health care guidelines. It was given out that once the transfer of land is done, poten- tial investors will be invited and feedback will be taken from them. STATE TIMES NEWSNEW DELHI: A four-day festivalshowcasing art, culture, cuisine, hand-icrafts and handlooms of northeasternregion will be held for the first time inVaranasi. Union Minister Dr JitendraSingh said, 'Destination North East'festival, which will begin in the templetown of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday,will exhibit the striking similaritiesbetween Ganga and Brahmaputrabasins in terms of ancient culture,diverse handlooms and silk products,spiritual heritage and vibrant touristhubs. "The idea of organising such anevent is to bring the rest of India clos-er to the Northeast and to have experi-ence of rich culture of the region,"Singh told reporters in New Delhi.

The Union Minister for Developmentof the Northeastern Region (DoNER)said all-round progress of theNortheast is the priority of the centralgovernment ever since Prime MinisterNarendra Modi took charge five years

ago. Varanasi is Lok Sabha constituen-cy of Modi.

All eight Northeastern states willparticipate in the event, to be held atIIT (BHU) ground, to display theirhandicrafts, handloom, organic prod-ucts and cultural troupes. During thefestival, the visitors will have live expe-rience of the artisans and artistes fromNortheast working on their looms andcrafts, performing folk songs anddances in open stage. Indigenousgames will also be performed where vis-itors can also participate. Live kitchenswith recipes from Northeast and UttarPradesh will be serving delicaciesthroughout the festival, organised bythe Ministry of DoNER.

According to Singh, music is the soulof the Northeast and the festival willhave megastars from the regions aswell as other parts of the country lend-ing their voices and talents to theevent. Renowned band 'ShillongChamber Choir', singers Papon,

Sourabhee Debbarma, BorkungHrangkhawl and Rekha Bhardwaj aresome of the voices who are likely to per-form, while several actors fromBollywood are also expected to attendthe fest.

Given the importance of Northeastvis-a-vis organic products, food pro-cessing, tourism, water developmentand seminars will be held every morn-ing during the festival with participa-tion of experts in the respective fields.The minister said a separate bamboopavilion would also be a part of the'Destination North East' festival.

Singh, who will inaugurate the festi-val, informed that a business-to-busi-ness session had also been scheduled onone of the days for business communi-ties to explore opportunities in north-eastern States. The DoNER ministeralso launched theme song of the festi-val. The previous editions of'Destination North East' were held inDelhi and Chandigarh.

Prof Vishav Raksha, Director Centre for Women'sStudies, University of Jammu spoke about the objective for hold-ing the workshop, which is to generate awareness about genderissues among scholars and students. The Research Scholars andstudents from Faculty of Sciences, Mathematical sciences,Management and Life Sciences participated in the workshop.Preeti Karmarkar, the key resource person from Pune, spokeabout sexual harassment at workplaces in daily life. She alsoundertook different brainstorming sessions comprising of variousactivities, wherein the students participated.

The other resource persons for the workshop included ElloraPuri, Department of Political Science, JU and Dr Saranjit KaurCentre for Women's Studies.
