Formulae :In these kind of problems, Ratios of ages of two persons at twodifferent

points of time are given and we need to calculate their ages at givenpoint

    of time .

Refer to Helpful rules mentioned in Ratio and Proportion topicto solve

these problem without even making equations.

    Formulae:

Ages of A and B are in the ratio of a:b . After “y” years , the ratio of ages

    becomes m:n .

Then their present ages are “ax” and “bx” years, where

    X =y(m-n)/(an-bm)

= Difference in Time * Difference in new ratio / Difference inmultiplication

    of new and old ratios

theratio between the ages of father and son becomes 11:5 . Find father’s

    presentage .

  • 8/19/2019 PadhleBeta.net Aptitude Problems on Ages

    11/12

    1) 30 years 3) 50 years

    2) 40 years 4) 48 years

    Solution :

    Older ratio of father and son’s ages = 3 : 1

    Newer ratio of father and son’s ages = 11 : 5

Let 5 years ago father’s age be

    = 3x years , where X

    =[{(5+5) * (11- 5) }/ {(3*5) –(1*11)}]

    =10 * 6 / 4 = 15

    Therefore , father’s age 5 years ago
