- In addition, the Packaging Guidelines contain examples of deliveries of unfinished parts tothe delivery address designated by Siemens. The supplier receives details of the deliveryaddress when an order is placed.
- Siemens attaches great importance to the fact that the content of these Guidelines does notrelease the designated supplier from liability for any damage arising, for example, fromdefective packaging or the inadequate protection of component parts. Particular attentionmust be paid to loading safety and security in accordance with VDI directive 2700ff. Whencarrying out its work, the supplier company shall be obliged to comply with all existing, legally binding and police regulations and those regulations which come into effect in thecourse of this work, in particular the directives of all public administrations, the IndustryControl Office (Gewerbeaufsichtsamt) and the relevant professional associations.
- The supplier company shall ensure that the services which it renders fulfill the guaranteedspecifications and requirements, comply with the recognized code of practice, and are in noway flawed or defective.
1.3. Additional regulations
- In addition to these Packaging Guidelines, Siemens AG's technical terms and conditions ofdelivery for the delivery of component parts must be complied with.
- In cases of uncertainty, the technical terms and conditions of delivery shall be given priorityover these Packaging Guidelines.
- The general norms and standards for packaging and the protection of components (e.g.DIN55531, ISO12944, etc.) must be complied with.
1.4. Information for the supplier
- The supplier must inquire with the relevant Siemens buyer about the currently valid revisionstatus. The buyer shall then provide the supplier with the currently valid revision status ofthe Packaging Guidelines if this information is not yet available.

2.0 Load carriers/Packaging
2.1 General requirements
- The size and extent of the packaging used should not be greater than is absolutelynecessary for the protection of the goods being transported.
- The components to be packed should not be higher than 80 percent of the width of thepallet used and the theoretical center of gravity must be kept as low as possible.
- Where possible, reusable packaging (euro pallets, etc.) which is suitable for pooling shouldbe used.
- The load carriers used must be in perfect condition and must be treated with all due care. This applies in particular to the load carriers provided by Siemens AG.
- If the dimensions and weight of the component(s) allow, euro pallets should be used, unless otherwise specified by Siemens.
- It is not permissible to use nails in order to join frames and/or packing blocks together.Only screw connections are allowed.
- The load carriers used (especially wooden carriers) must be protected against the ingressof moisture and must be stored in a dry place. The use of damp load carriers is strictlyforbidden.
- The components must be stored on the load carriers in such a manner that the componentscan be handled as smoothly as possible at Siemens AG between the goods receiptdepartment and the departments where they undergo further processing. This also appliesto components which are delivered to other Siemens AG suppliers.
- A particular material number must always be packed in the same way. Each type ofpackaging always contains the same number of products.
- It must be possible to remove the components easily and securely.
- Cardboard boxes must not be closed with metal clips because of the risk of injury: instead, adhesive tape or velcro strips should be used.
- Packing Pieces (i.e. Boxes / cardboard boxes) with a total weight higher than 15 kg need tohave grips (at least 2) or skids. From a total weight higher than 25 kg skids are mandatory.
- If any deviation from these regulations is required or requested, the supplier must obtainthe written approval of the relevant Siemens buyer prior to delivery.
- If the agreed packaging directives are not complied with, Siemens shall reserve the right torefuse to accept the component(s) and/or to invoice the supplier for the cost of repacking

- In the case of closed packaging, the contents of which are not directly visible, ornonsymmetrical components, the center of gravity of the package must be indicated bymeans of a label.
2.2 Standard load carriers
Siemens AG has defined specifications for load carriers, based on the general requirements forload carriers and the protection of component parts. Following agreement with the supplier, thesestandard load carriers must be used in the load carrier cycle between the supplier and SiemensAG and/or in the load carrier cycle between the raw material suppliers, the processing companiesand Siemens AG.
The following is a list of different load carriers and instructions for their use:

3.2 Storing components on the load carrier
- Parts must be suitably protected against direct contact with the load carrier and with oneanother.
- Suppliers are advised not to use oiled paper, since this can have an adverse effect on thefriction coefficient between the components (component/packaging).
- Components must be securely mounted on the load carrier so that they cannot slip. It isadvisable to use non-slip materials which match the weight of the component and at thesame time protect the component against direct contact with the load carrier.
- The conservation measures are not applicable to cast-iron components which arecompletely primed.
- If necessary, the components must additionally be prevented from slipping by means ofstrapping (preferably textile straps). Care must be taken to ensure that neither thecomponent nor the load carrier is damaged by the additional securing material, e.g. byover-tightening the straps.
- Direct contact between the component and the strapping must be avoided by using non-slipmaterials and wooden chocks between component and strapping.
- If euro pallets are fitted with wooden frames to protect the components, care must be takento ensure that packaging material attached above the components to secure them does notextend beyond the edge of the uppermost part of the wooden frames.
- The packing tape should be protected at all sharp-edged points by means of a suitableedge protection.

- The delivered components must be protected against corrosion in such a way that they canbe placed in storage for 3 months.
- The conservation specifications contained in directive 801 956 98 must be complied with.
- If a supplier does not have suitable anti-rust products, the further course of action must beagreed on with Siemens.
- Primed, unfinished and unmachined parts are not included in the conservation measures.
- For certain components, alternative methods and/or materials for corrosion protection mustbe used, following consultation between the supplier and Siemens (e.g. use of VCI foil).
3.4 Hazardous goods
Hazardous goods must be packed, labeled and transported with the required accompanyingdocumentation in accordance with the currently applicable national and international regulations forthe different modes of transport.

4.3.3 Important general notes
- If participating on the electronically data interchange using the advanced shippingnotification with Siemens Duisburg (i.e. Supply On), the delivery note created out of thissystem is the relevant one for the supplier.
