This is our 7th year of progress toward being not just a Green Dog Show, but a ZERO WASTE

Dog Show. With your help we have decreased our waste by approximately 90% each year since

days of overflowing garbage cans swarming with flies and wasps. That means 90% less methane/

green house gas has gone into the atmosphere. Since the world’s recent gathering in Paris we are

even more motivated to keep decreasing what gets hauled to the land fill from our show. Please

keep using the recycle/compost and poop containers as labelled. Merci buckets!

Hello Bonjour

Welcome to Pacific Kennel Club Bienvenue à Pacific Kennel Club

ENTRY FEES

Listed Dogs

8.4.1 If a dog is not registered as in 8.3.1 (a) or (b) but is eligible for registration with the CKC, it may be entered at a show as a listed dog provided:

(a) that if born in Canada, it is eligible for individual regis-tration;

(b) that if not born in Canada, it is eligible for registration in the records of the CKC;

(c) that if it is a foreign born and owned dog, an Event Registration Number or CKC registration num-ber is obtained from the CKC within 30 days of the first show entered.8.4.2 Entry of a listed dog at a show must be accompanied by a listing fee as set by the Board in addition to the regular entry fee.

8.4.3 The CKC has the right to require the owner of a listed dog to provide proof of the dog’s eligibility for registration in the CKC. If it is found that the dog is not eligible, the CKC shall have the right to cancel all wins.

8.4.4 When a CKC registration number for a listed dog is received after the closing date and prior to the date of the show, this number may be added to the entry and noted in the marked catalogue. Listing fees will not be refunded. This then al-lows a dog who completes the requirement for championship status to be moved up to Spe-cials.

8.7 Withdrawal of Entries

8.7.1 An exhibitor has the right to withdraw an entry at any time up to the closing date and time as pub-lished in the premium list. This may be done by telephone, but either written or electronic notifi-cation must be received by the show secretary no later than the official closing date and time as stated in the premium list. If written or elec-tronic notification is not received, the dog will remain entered in the show.

8.8 Fees

Infectious diseases are always a risk, and The Canadian

Kennel Club Genetics & Medical Committee wishes to remind

breeders and owners of the best practices for limiting the spread

of infectious diseases, and the unique concerns for animals en-

tered in the Baby Puppy Class. Note these risks may also apply

to all dog events.

Rules and Regulations :

We remind exhibitors of Section 8.1 of the published CKC Con-

formation Show Rules and Regulations found here, with an ex-

cerpt below:

8.1 General

8.1.1 A dog may not be entered or exhibited at a show held un-

der these rules if it has any communicable disease. Dogs en-

tered in a show must have current immunization status.

8.1.2 No dog may be brought onto the grounds or premises of a

show held under these rules if it:

(a) is known to have distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough or oth-

er communicable disease;

(b) has recovered from distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough or

other communicable disease within the last 30 days

(c) has been housed within 30 days prior to the show on premis-

es on which there existed distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough or

other communicable disease.

8.1.3 Where it is found that these rules have been contravened,

the dog in question shall be removed from the show premises

and the exhibitor will be subject to disciplinary action.

Steps to Minimize the Spread of Infections :

1. All dogs should be up to date on their immunizations. Modern

vaccines are generally quite safe and always safer than the risk

of infections, especially Parvovirus and Distemper in unvaccinat-

ed animals. Ensure that your adult dogs have been vaccinated

on a schedule recommended by your veterinarian.

2. Exhibiting dogs under six months in the Baby Puppy Class is

inherently risky. Maternal antibodies may interfere with vaccines

and prevent an immune response sufficient to protect against

disease. Maternal antibodies may persist up to 12 weeks. Pup-

pies younger than 16-18 weeks should have received a booster

shot 1-4 weeks before the show date. Participation in the Baby

Puppy Class is at your discretion and in all cases, your baby

puppy should have had multiple separate immunizations before

participating.

3. No unvaccinated puppies should ever be brought to a show.

4. Avoid unnecessary contact between your dogs and other dogs

at the show, other exhibitors, and show attendees.

5. At home, try to minimize contact between dogs that have re-

cently returned from a show and your other dogs, and in particu-

lar unvaccinated puppies, for a period of two weeks to minimize

transmission of infections.

6. Do not bring a dog to a show if that dog, or any dog that your

dog has come in contact with, has been ill within the last two

weeks. Remember that infectious diseases can travel on clothing

and be aware that you could be an agent of infection.

7. To minimize the risk of transmission of infections between

dogs, we recommend the handler/owner open the mouth of dogs

in the show ring to show the bite rather than having the judge

perform this task. You can discuss this directly with the judge for

your breed/group.

8. Anyone handling dogs should wash their hands thoroughly for

at least 30 seconds, scrubbing thoroughly with soap and warm

water between handling different dogs and frequently throughout

the day during a show to minimize as far as possible transmis-

sion of infections. If proper hand-washing facilities are not acces-

sible at a show, use an alcohol-containing hand sanitizer prod-

uct.

9. Clean areas that come in contact with animals frequently and

thoroughly with an appropriate cleaner, particularly crates, bowls

and other items brought to and from the show floor. Dilute bleach

or stabilized peroxide disinfectants are the most effective at kill-

ing all types of pathogens.

10. Any dog that falls ill while at a show may be removed by the

show authorities and reported to the CKC (8.6.1(b) Conformation

Show Rules). We suggest that if a dog falls ill at a show the own-

er/handler immediately remove the dog from the building and

inform the show authorities as well as owners of any other dogs

that may have come into immediate contact with the sick dog.

11. If your dog was exposed to any dog that was ill or later fell ill,

quarantine the dog immediately for a minimum of two weeks and

discuss with your veterinarian.

Again, we stress that no dog with a communicable disease may

attend a CKC-sanctioned show and any dog may be removed

from the show by the show authorities on account of disease and

be reported to the CKC.

Some more information on Canine Infectious Diseases

Distemper ,Canine Distemper is caused by an RNA virus that

infects the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts, central nervous

system, and conjunctival membranes of the eye. Symptoms in-

clude sneezing and coughing, often with eye or nose discharge,

fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, and hardening of nose and foot-

pads, hence the old name hardpad disease. Infection can result

from inhalation of aerosols as well as direct contact with urine,

blood, or discharges of infected animal. Secondary bacterial

infections are a risk. Dogs of any age can become infected but

the risk is greatest for unprotected dogs under six months of age.

Distemper immunity is provided by core vaccination and the virus

is killed by most common cleaning agents.

For Safety sake NO DOGS can be left

unattended in vehicles in day parking for

any length of time, or for any reason .

Jolie Janssen is a breed-er and exhibitor of Doberman Pinschers and Chinese Cresteds under the Janterra prefix with the help of her husband and daughter and all help with whelping and raising puppies. Janterra is a selective family breeding program which keeps to the

motto, ‘A noble mind deserves a noble architecture’ and keeping this in mind we have managed to produce many Canadian and American champions.

Photography is one of Jolie’s passions. She spends many hours photographing dogs of all breeds while attending dog shows, as well as doing private photo shoots.

Nicholas Phillips

I started in dogs in 1969 working

with Helen and Doug Roy of Kel-

Tara Kerry Blue Terriers, training,

grooming, and handling show

Kerries. Over a 15-year associa-

tion, I had the opportunity and

privilege to learn from and handle

alongside some of the best dog breeders and

handlers as I, travelled across Canada the US. As a

junior I was active in the Vancouver Junior Kennel

Club under the tutelage of Elsie Murray. I’ve owned

and shown Kerries and Wire Fox Terriers, in addition

to handling a number of other breeds from various

groups. In dog show work, I’ve done everything from

being a ring steward, a show superintendent, club

officer and judging at sanction matches. Most notable

from those early years for me was delivering, training,

and handling the great Can. Am. Ch. Kel- Tara’s Star

Jubilee to her Canadian title before she embarked on

her record-setting career with Tim Brazier. Eventually

my own career as a social worker and university

instructor, along with my involvement in the

endurance athletics swimming, and road cycling, plus

coaching swimming, my life was taken in other

directions but a lifelong friendship with the Roys kept

me in touch with the dog world. I continued to follow

the sport from a distance.

I recently returned to the show ring handling my first

Shiba Inu, having been an admirer of the breed for a

number of years.

The motto at Kel-Tara was “sound of body, mind, and

spirit” and those words hold true for me to this day when I think about what to look for in a purebred dog. And if we, humans and dogs, aren’t having at least a

little bit of fun we’re not doing it right.

Philip John, India,

I have officiated as a Specialist judge at Sight Hound, Dachshund, Labrador, Doberman, Boxer, Rottweiler, Great Dane, Dalmatian, Basenji, Pug and Tibetan breeds shows. Have been in-

vited to judge the National Specialty by the Spaniel Club of Denmark in 2017.

I have bred Doberman, Beagle, Lhasa Apso, Stand-ard Dachshund, and German Shepherd Dog. Also exhibited Greyhound, Whippet, and Standard Dachs-hund (LH).

I am currently the President of the Dachshund Club of India.

Jorge Luis Patiño

Fernández, Mexico…..

The dogs I have now and breed are Dobermann and Bulldog. I have always hired handlers to present my dogs, the situation of being a judge and presenting dogs

oneself is not as well regarded in Mexico. I am judge of all breeds since 2008 and also a Veterinary Doctor.

Filiberta Arniella,

Peurto Rico …

I have been involved with Rho-desian Ridgebacks for about 44 years. My last litter was about 4 years ago. Currently I keep fe-males only of these breeds:Ridgebacks, a Fila Bra-

sileiro, a Brazilian Terrier, a miniature wirehaired Dackhund, a Brittany, a Pointer and a Mutt .

I stated in the sport with Labrador Retrievers in Obedi-ence, until I saw my first Ridgeback. I have done tracking, and I love Agility

My first RR's where finished in USA by professional handlers then I handled myself. I love to finish my dogs from the Bred-By class.

I did handle for other people for a few years.

I look forward to judge great dogs, meet new friends and visit some parts of your location.

My home airport is San Juan (SJU)

Lana Ferguson

My involvement in pure-bred dogs began in 1979. My first show dog was a Dalmatian, CH Aiglons Pixie CD. In our very first show Pixie went BPIG and, as they say, the rest is history. I was hooked. Going forward I spent

many years showing Dalmatians in both the confor-mation and obedience rings. During those years I occasionally handled Shetland Sheepdogs for my mother who was very involved in obedience.

In 1999 I purchased my first Doberman Pinscher BIS CH Devonquest Misdemeanor CD, CGC (Devon). Dobermans have been my passion since Devon entered my life and I have been commited to the breed ever since.

Over the years I have bred Dalmatians and Dober-mans under the Legendale prefix. I currntly am active in conformation, nosework, obedience, lure-coursing as well as barn hunt. I am a Life Time member of CKC, member of DPCA and DPCC.

I am a licenced Mortgage Broker and have owned my own business Verico Vistabay Mortgages Inc., for many years. I am an avid curler and enjoy golf-ing when time permits.

This is an exciting time for me as I begin embarking on my judging career.

Laurel Deptuch

I have been involved with purebred dogs since my family purchased a boarding and grooming kennel in the early 1970s. We have bred Afghan Hounds, Standard and Miniature Poodles under the

Swiftwind prefix for over 40

years. Over the years we have owned and bred many top producing and top winning dogs both in conformation and performance.

I am currently Secretary/Treasurer for The Afghan Hound of BC, Field Coordinator for The Vancouver Island Coursing Association, life member of The Tyee Kennel Club and long time member of The Afghan Hound Cub of Canada and The Canadian Kennel Club.

I live on Vancouver Island with my wonderful husband, Ross and two zany Afghan Hounds. I am now licensed to judge the Hound group and on permit for 1/2 of the Working Group.

For me, form follows function and that is how I

assess dogs. I am honoured and excited to be here and see all the quality working dogs.

Shawn Nichols My involvement in purebred dogs started in 1982 when I attended my first conformation shows. I quickly developed a keen interest for the sport of dogs. In the summer of 1985 I went to work for professional handlers Mark and Sally George, in Northern Cali-fornia. I soon realized this sport would be a life commitment. I continued to work for professional handlers, namely Tim Brazier, Mark Shanoff and Carol Gra-

ham, all of whom offered me the privilege of working with some truly amazing dogs. Eventually I relocated to Cal-gary where, in partnership with Raymond Yurick we han-dled several breeds specializing in Toy & Terrier breeds. One of the dogs we showed Am. Can.Ch. Clarion Came-lot Communique, Canada’s top Non-Sporting dog and #10 All breeds in 2008. I have bred Wire Fox Terriers, Whippets, Scottish Terri-ers but primarily Toy & Miniature Poodles under the Typecast prefix. In 2007 I had the honour of purchasing and assuming the responsibility of being the editor of Terrier Type, a unique magazine that chronicled the history and achievements of the Terrier since 1961.

I currently reside in Calgary where I work for L’Oreal Professional as a Business Development Consultant. I recently completed my Marketing Sales Manage-ment Diploma at BCIT. In 2012, I started to judge and I have completed the Toy, Non Sporting, Hound group I am currently working on completing the Terrier group. Judging to me was a natural evolution to add to my ex-periences in the dog world. It also allows me to remain current with issues of importance to breeders and exhibi-tors and offers me a means to be involved with CKC. In addition to judging in Canada and the US it has afforded me the luxury of judging in Mexico, Korea and most re-cently Australia.

Janet L. Buchanan I am an

All Breed judge, licenced by the CKC.

A fifty year association with the CKC

as breeder,owner handler exhibitor

and judge has given me a wealth of

experiences and memories for which I

am grateful.

My kennel name is Auldstane and

Scottish Deerhounds and Salukis have been my

main interest and most rewarding achievements ,

though I have a special affection for all Hounds. Salukis

share my home on Vancouver Island today

Judging at All breed and Specialty shows in Canada

and the US, Sweden, Finland ,Denmark, Argentina, Aus-

tralia and New Zealand provides an appreciation for our

international similarities and differences within our pas-

sion and sport. I have been so fortunate to be able to

enjoy some really memorable dogs and events.
