Verse 1 - Beloved, I now write this second letter to you, in which I stir up your pure mind by reminder

Verse 2 - to remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the Lord and Savior by us, the apostles.

Verses 3-4, First, knowing this, that there will come in the last days scoffers walking according to their own lusts and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.

Promise of His Coming: Matt.24:30, Is.19:1: Jn.14:3 Last Days – Can mean gospel age or end of the

Jewish System. Verse 5, For this they willfully forget, that there were

heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God;

Verses 6, by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

Verse 7, but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

“The Day of Judgment” Not “A” But “The” Found 7 Times in the New Testament: Matt.10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more

tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Matt.11:22 But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.

Matt.11:24 But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Matt.12:36 And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

2Pet.2:9 the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;

1Jn.4:17 Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world.

Verse 8, But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Time is Irrelevant with God, Ps.90:4 Verse 9, The Lord is not slack concerning his

promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God is Wanting Repentance, Rom.2:4

Verse 10, But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The Day of the Lord – God’s Day to Act, OT - NT Elements - something orderly in arrangement, that

is, (by implication) a serial (basal, fundamental, initial) constituent (literally), proposition (figuratively): - element, principle, rudiment.

Gal.4:3-5, 9-10; Heb.5:12-14

Verse 11-12, Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy living and godliness, looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Indeed, What Kind of People Should We Be?

Verse 13, But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Isaiah 65:17ff: For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Messianic Age: Isaiah 65:17-25 - Isaiah 11:1-10 – Rom.15:12

But This Begin Acts 2, A.D. 30 NOT After Destruction of Jerusalem.

Verse 14, Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for these things, give diligence that ye may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in his sight.

Logical Conclusion to Draw From Such Facts Verse 15, And account that the longsuffering of our

Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you;

God Shows Great Longsuffering and Patience.

Verse 16, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Paul’s Letters Were Inspired Scripture. Verses 17-18, Ye therefore, beloved, knowing these

things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Verse 11-12, Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
