Automatic Control & Systems Engineering. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #WeAreInternational Pablo Baldivieso My name is Pablo, I’m originally from Bolivia and I am studying a PhD in Robust Distributed Model Predictive Control. I chose ACSE because it was one of the few departments offering a MSc in Control Systems, and also because of the prestige that University has as a whole. The biggest difficulty I had was gearing back into student most, as well as trying to figure out how things work in the UK (buses, trains, queuing, and so on). The Department and University helped me settle in by basically letting you know that in case something does go wrong they would be eager to help and there are specific sections to help you. Aside from that, I think I’m fairly independent and curious so discovering Sheffield was an adventure. The research environment in ACSE, and University facilities (libraries and all) were the highlights of an overall great experience. I felt very comfortable during my MSc here. Sheffield is a small city compared to the place I was born, so I liked the quietness, and being able to walk everywhere! I would advise new students to be open- minded to new cultures and traditions. Take all the opportunities the university gives you, go have some fish and chips, and don’t be afraid to try new stuff.

Pablo BaldiviesoMy name is Pablo, I’m

originally from Bolivia and I am studying a PhD in Robust Distributed Model Predictive Control.

I felt very comfortable during

my MSc here. Sheffield is a small city compared to the place I was born, so I liked the quietness, and being able to walk everywhere!

I would advise new students to be open-minded to new cultures and traditions. Take all the opportunities the university gives you, go have some fish and chips, and don’t be afraid to try new stuff.
