    Cory Kerr, Professor

    Date Completed:March 28, 2015

Description:Brochure designed using a personally created logo for an existing company.

Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Incorporate quality images. (One should be clipped in

Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.)

Write at least 250 words of original copy. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Program(s) Used:Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

My Design Process:After gathering all the materials I thought I might need, I drew up several layouts. Deciding on the wanted poster, I then put the project together in InDesign. I used an old western theme through the whole design, incorporating sheriff stars and forest pictures.

  • LogosCourse/Instructor:Comm 130 Visual MediaCory Kerr, Professor

    Date Completed:February 21, 2015

Description:Logos created for a custom woodwork business

Objectives: Create three completely different, original logos to fit a

company and will be appealing to audience. Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your

logos. (Cannot be existing logos) Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo

    appeals most to them.

    Program(s) Used:Adobe Illustrator

My Design Process:I began by sketching out many different ideas, landing on these three. The top was designed with branding in mind, hoping the simplicity would make for a quick and easy brand you could burn into the wood furniture. The middle was designed with exactness in mind, having the compass direct the measurement aspect. Lastly, the bottom one was designed in hopes to incorporate the whole name into a logo.

  • FlierCourse/Instructor:Comm 130 Visual MediaCory Kerr, Professor

    Date Completed:January 24, 2015

Description:Black and white flier designed to pull in graduating seniors and inform them of the leadership conference available.

Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography

in the design. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic layout. Retrieve image and logo from links. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign

document to keep links in InDesign intact.

    Program(s) Used:Adobe InDesign

My Design Process:In order to create visual appeal, I inserted repeating lines in the design. I varried the size of the typography to emphasize points. I also chose a picture that would capture the essence of the crowd that was trying to be reached.

  • MontageCourse/Instructor:Comm 130 Visual Media

    Cory Kerr, Professor

    Date Completed:February 14, 2015

Description:Montage of pictures blended to create a spiritual message.

Objectives: Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant

spiritual message. Learn to blend two or more images together gradually,

using masks. Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image.

    Select good quality images.

    Program(s) Used:Adobe Photoshop

My Design Process:The inspiration for this montage was a song, and I used that to create something that matched the tone of the song. I added a sparating line between the chaos and the peaceful sides, creating contrast.

  • Letterhead and BusinesscardCourse/Instructor:Comm 130 Visual Media

    Cory Kerr, Professor

    Date Completed:February 28, 2015

Description:Letterhead designed with a personally created logo.

Objectives: Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a

business card and letterhead. Apply typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop

shadows and plenty of white space.

    Program(s) Used:Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

My Design Process:I first created the logo I would use in the whole project, and then began by adding the logo and the text to the project. I made sure the text matched the theme of woodwork. After designing the business card, I realized I needed to create better unity. I then added the measuring lines to the design.

  • Letterhead and Businesscard

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Visual MediaCory Kerr, Professor

    Date Completed:February 28, 2015

Description:Business card designed with a personally created logo.

My Design Process:I decided the logo was important to display on its own on the backside of the business card. To make the front of the card very simple, I added the contact information. To pull in the woodwork design idea, I added measurement lines to the front. These things tied in the design to the letterhead.
