Portable bridge system or portable prefabricated bridge system is a type of portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge. The common name for it is Bailey bridge that was developed during World War II for military use and saw extensive use by both British and the American military engineering units. This type of bridges had the advantages of needing no special tools or heavy equipment to construct. The wood and steel bridge elements were small and light enough to be transported in trucks and lifted into place by hand (in some cases). Furthermore, Bailey bridges were strong enough to carry tanks and continue to be extensively used in civil engineering construction projects and to provide temporary crossings for foot and vehicle traffic In Malaysia, portable bridges are being used by Public Work Department, Royal Engineer Regiment, Civil Defense Department and others. Most of this systems in Malaysia are dominated by Bailey Bridge for its design and expertise. Realising the need to do localisation and use local expertise, Malaysian researchers have designed and developed its own portable bridge system with the necessary specifications required. The product is designed and developed for high performance and is made from choices of advanced materials such as aluminum alloy or hybrid with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (for better performance). The performance of this new bridge system has been tested and met the Military Load Class 70, with less overall weight and substantial cost reduction. The characteristics of this invention are: The product can be manufactured using mild steel for lower cost when weight and mobility can be tolerated The product can serve for any purpose, mainly for gap crossing. When serving for gap crossing it will be laid as bridge girders, spanning up to 26 meters per span, and is able to carry a load up to 60 tonnes The structural members can be produced locally, using local expertise, and using locally available materials The invention has been protected via the lodgement of a Malaysian patent www.platcomventures.com The product can enter the market subsequent to constructing the full-scale system. The inventors would like to speak to companies interested to commercialise the invention. The potential applications are wide as the capability to produce such product locally and at cheaper cost, more bridges can be built or replaced to provide better infrastructures to the people of this country and other countries too. Portable bridge system or portable prefabricated bridge system

is a type of portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge. The common

name for it is Bailey bridge that was developed during World War

II for military use and saw extensive use by both British and the

American military engineering units. This type of bridges had the

advantages of needing no special tools or heavy equipment to

construct. The wood and steel bridge elements were small and

light enough to be transported in trucks and lifted into place by

hand (in some cases). Furthermore, Bailey bridges were strong

enough to carry tanks and continue to

be extensively used in civil engineering construction projects and

to provide temporary crossings for foot and vehicle traffic In

Malaysia, portable bridges are being used by Public Work

Department, Royal Engineer Regiment, Civil Defense

Department and others. Most of this systems in Malaysia are

dominated by Bailey Bridge for its design and expertise.

Realising the need to do localisation and use local expertise,

Malaysian researchers have designed and developed its own

portable bridge system with the necessary specifications

required.

The product is designed and developed for high performance

and is made from choices of advanced materials such as

aluminum alloy or hybrid with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer

(for better performance). The performance of this new bridge

system has been tested and met the Military Load Class 70, with

less overall weight and substantial cost reduction. The

characteristics of this invention are:

• The product can be manufactured using mild steel for

lower cost when weight and mobility can be tolerated

• The product can serve for any purpose, mainly for gap

crossing. When serving for gap crossing it will be laid as

bridge girders, spanning up to 26 meters per span, and

is able to carry a load up to 60 tonnes

• The structural members can be produced locally, using

local expertise, and using locally available materials

The invention has been protected via the lodgement of a Malaysian patent

www.platcomventures.com

The product can enter the market subsequent to constructing the full-scale system. The inventors would like to speak to companies interested to commercialise the invention.

The potential applications are wide as the capability to produce

such product locally and at cheaper cost, more bridges can be

built or replaced to provide better infrastructures to the people of

this country and other countries too. The potential applications

are as follows:

• Construction Application (Temporary)

• Mining

• Military

• Logistic

and use local expertise, Malaysian

researchers have designed and

developed our own portable bridge

system with the necessary

specifications required. This new

design for high performance portable

bridge system is made of advanced

materials.

• Permanent Bridge Solution

In Malaysia, the product can be marketed to the Public Work

Department (PWD) and the Royal Engineer Regiment (RER).

Other potential user is Civil Defence Department (JPAM) for

various disaster relief operations.
