Grace UMC, Alamogordo: Fulfilling Our Purpose While many children were celebrating the start of summer vacation by sleeping in and taking it easy, children participating in Kids With a Mission were hard at work, with smiles on their faces and joy in their heart, making a difference in their world. With talents to share and time to give, 61 children, 12 youth, and 68 volunteers spent June 1 - June 5 being the hands and feet of Christ.
"Imagine what we could do if we did this all summer! We could really make God and a lot of people happy!"
These words, spoken by a young six-year old, give witness to the fact that Kids With a Mission was a success. But, more than that, these words give witness to the fact that Kids With a Mission was a success far beyond all the dresses, far beyond all the Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts, far beyond the carwash, far beyond the neck wraps, far beyond the washing machine buckets. Because you see, Kids With a Mission reached beyond all that we accomplished to the very heart of why we did it - to make a difference… to fill a need… to answer a calling… to bring a smile… to lend a hand… to
minister to those around us… to fulfill the very purpose for which we were created.
Each of us were created on purpose, with purpose, for a purpose. Each of us were created with talents, giftings, and passions. And, each of us were created to fill a need, to answer a calling, to bring a smile, to lend a hand, to minister to those around us.
For three hours a day, the first five days of June, all those participating in Kids With a Mission had a taste of what it feels like to live life with purpose, on purpose, for a purpose. For three hours a day, the first five days of June, all those participating in Kids With a Mission felt the joy that comes when we live to bless others, experienced the satisfaction one feels when completing a project with someone else in mind, explored the very reason for their existence, and glimpsed the impact their life can make in the life of someone else.
When this very special week came to an end, their labor of love yielded the following fruit: * 26 little dresses and 3 little britches had been sewn for children in Africa * 13 neck wraps and 10 back wraps had been embroidered, decorated, filled with rice, and sewn for hospice patients * 29 bucket washing machines had been decorated and assembled for the Four Corners Native American Ministry. * 30 derby cars and numerous pretty girl bracelets and numerous paracord boy bracelets had been made to tuck into Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes in the Fall. * Countless crosses had been made to be delivered to shut in members of our church family and residents in area nursing homes. * Scripture magnets were made to place at the Welcome center or give out around town * Woodwork in the sanctuary had been polished, pencils in the hymn racks sharpened, and pews cleaned. * Marionette puppets had been creatively created and taken to two area nursing homes to bring smiles and cheer as the children danced with their puppets and visited with the residents. * Cookies and cupcakes were baked for our weekly Shared Table community meal * Flowers were planted in recycled detergent bottle planters to then be given to a loved one * $670 was raised at our carwash to support "Hydrants of Hope", a firefighter driven outreach helping support children fighting cancer * Weeds were pulled, bushes were trimmed, and a bench was painted at the home of an elderly church member * Door hangers created to share God's love and invite our neighbors to come "be our guest" were distributed through out the Grace neighborhood. * Children learned to sign the precious words of John 3:16
Add to this, fun outdoor games, delicious snacks, daily Bible stories, and amazing worship and you begin to catch a teeny glimpse of this God-filled week.

FARMINGTON FIRST UMC OVERFLOW FREE STORE
First, look at the following facts and figures:
Our Overflow Free Store was opened in December of 2014 for just 2 days so people could get “stuff” before
Christmas. We have been open Wednesdays and
Saturdays since the middle of January 2015. We have
donations from our congregation, their friends, our
members and the whole community. We have 31 adult
volunteers, 12 youth volunteers and 2 grandchildren of
volunteers. We have 642 member households for over
1900 individuals served. We have given away 21,700 items with an estimated value of $117,000. Smith’s Food
and Drug has donated over 650 pounds of bread and
pastries to be given to our members. But these are just the facts; the real story is the people – the people served
and the people serving.
The woman who recently confided that everything
she had on was from the store, from her shoes to her blouse – and everything under her clothes!
The bruised and battered women from the Crisis
Center who left their homes with no clothes!
The people on fixed incomes who are looking for
something nice to wear.
The prayers with those seeking peace. The listening – always listening to the life stories.
The young girl crying because she found a wedding
dress in our store. The smiles on the children’s faces as they find a
nearly new toy of their very own. Just look…
