carotenoid products also increases with leading

food manufacturers announcing their

discontinuation of the use of artificial colors. Since

95% of carotenoid products in the world are

synthesized, companies’ synthesis capability

becomes critical to secure a position in this field.

Allied Biotech is one of the few companies in the

world to have vertically integrated processes

starting from four carbon atoms and ending with

final products having 30 (Apocarotenal) or 40 ( -

carotene, Canthaxanthin and Lycopene) carbon

atoms. The process integration offers

In addition to synthesis technology, the second

key success factor for carotenoid production is the

formulation. As carotenoids are insoluble in water,

sensitive to oxygen, light and heat, and difficult to

handle, before they can be used in nutraceuticals,

food, feed and cosmetic, they need to be

formulated into different forms such as powder,

emulsion, solution, and suspension. The

formulation technology is not only capital-

intensive, but also demands high engineering

standards. With years of experience and field

Altratene®, with products conforming to the latest

regulations from USP, FCC, Ph. Eur, and EU

regulation No. 231/2012. Altratene® products also

HALAL, Taiwan FDA Food Safety Accreditation &

Certification System, FSSC 22000 (Food Safety

System Certification), ISO9001, ISO22000, and

HACCP. Altratene® carotenoid products are also

allergen free and non-GMO. In addition, the

company also offers products that are 100% plant-

derived with no animal products added.

carotenoids with different forms. These include

high concentration products that are very difficult

to produce such as 10% and 20% water soluble

powders and emulsions. The company also has

developed a new synthesis method for Lycopene,

which enables production of Lycopene crystals

similar to Lycopene extracted from tomatoes (all-

trans isomers > 94%). This Lycopene product is

the only product on the market that fully meets
