" THE ROSE AND THE RING" AT THE OPERA.

'' The Hose and the Hing," that delightful and Yery lrnmoron~ fire~id<> pantomime, a:-it is called, written by 'l'haeke'r<'!y and adapted for the stage by Harris neanc, will he presented by :Hiss Nybil ~farb ai the Opera House for three performances-Friday anfl ~aturday. All the children are working with enthusiasm, and to judge from thr high averagP standard of the performances PYen nm\· should irnt up a rernarkahly good sho\\. THE ALHAMBRA.

"The Return of Dr. Fu Manchu."

The breath-taking thrills of the last Dr. Fu Manchu picture are still freHh in our memorv. The character of this insidious Orient~l doctor is an amazing creation, and has made the man ·who plays it, Warner 0 land, famous in screen work. In the ne'N talkie, "The Return of Dr. Flt Manchu," to be sho\,rn at the Alhambra next week, the incidents are said to be ten times more thrilling. Fu l\Ianchu is a perfect fiend, anrl. ::;pares nothing in hi. desire to take us from one "spooky" rendezvous to another. The story certainly promises to be Sax Rohmer at hiF best. The original "Dr. Fu l\Ianchu'' cast has been wisely brought back in its entirety. 0. P. Heggie, the clever English actor, has the part of the 8cotland Yard sleuth, and his work appears to be one long chapter of surprises. William Austin, another English actor, is the skittsh fop, who makes us laugh. Reil Hamilton is the hand-

some young Dr. Jack, and Jean Arthur is the heroin0 who i, at the mercy of Fu :Mandrn. m1d \\·ho goeR through some terrifying experiences. ~IT. ~fax Bruce ,,-ill continue to entertain U8 at the \rnrlitzrr. as only _jfr. Bruce can.
