MIXING AND LOADING SITES
• Water Contamination
• Drains
HAZARDS TO CONSIDERHAZARDS TO CONSIDER
WATER CONTAMINATION
DO NOT MIX OR LOAD NEAR WATER SOURCES
• Wells

MIXING, LOADING OR CLEANING PESTICIDE EQUIPMENT OVER OR
NEAR DRAINS
• Know where the drain empties
• Air Gap
• Backflow preventer
USE BACKFLOW PROTECTION
MIX AND LOAD ON SITE
CLEAN SPRAYER TANK
• Rinse tank with limited water and cleaner
• Rinsate should be applied to labeled site
• If possible, designated tanks for herbicides

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM EXPOSURE WHEN WORKING WITH PESTICIDES
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
• Read the Label
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is found in the Precautionary Statement of the label
• PPE requirements could be more detailed for mixing and loading
PPE• Keep Out of Reach of Children
• CAUTION

• laminate or viton. For more information, follow instructions in Supplement
• Three of PR Notice 93-7. If you want more options, follow the instructions
• for category H on an EPA chemical resistance category selections chart.
Loaders, applicators and all other handlers must wear:• Coveralls over long-sleeved shirt and long pants• Chemical-resistant gloves• Chemical-resistant footwear plus socks• A NIOSH-approved dust mist filtering respirator with MSHA/NIOSHapproval number prefix TC-21C or a NIOSH-approved respirator withany N, R, P, or HE filter
•Never store with pesticides
•Respirator and respirator cartridges should be stored separately
•Clean respirator after each use

OF PPE SHOULD INCLUDE
RESPIRATOR USE FOR FUMIGATION
New fumigant labels require respirator use to conform to OSHA’s 29 CFR Part 1090.134 includes:
• Medical Clearance
• Fit Test
• Annual fit-testing thereafter
FUMIGATION OVERVIEW• Reregistration Eligibility Decisions (REDs), for chemicals registered prior to
1984 under FQPA (Food Quality Protection Act), require soil fumigants to include additional label measures to protect applicators and bystanders.
FUMIGATION SUMMARY
2010 Mitigation, (2011 crop season) Handler respiratory protection Tarp perforation and removal restrictions Reentry restrictions Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) Fumigant Management Plans (FMPs) RUP classification Registrant-provided handler information
2011 Mitigation, (2012 crop season) Buffers and buffer posting Restrictions near difficult to evacuate sites Emergency preparedness and response Registrant-provided training and community outreach programs
