• Reed Sandridge – started the Year of Giving after losing his job and in honor of his mother who had passed away.

• Reed gives $10 a day to those in his community in hopes that it will inspire them to do something for someone else.

• This endeavor started out small, but through consistency and dedication, he has built authority with a large group of people.

Authority in the world…The almost perfect, perfect game

• On June 2nd of this year, Armando Galarraga, the pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, lost his bid for a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th inning on a bad call by 1st base umpire Jim Joyce.

• Joyce later realized he made a mistake, accepted personal accountability, and apologized to Galarraga.

• When we think of power in the world, there are different world leaders that come to mind that will execute or send to jail those who go against what they want.

• Unethical CEOs can destroy companies.

• During each season, contestants compete to be the head chef at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants.

How do you deal with a POWER leader?• You cannot change them, you can only change yourself.

• Do not be confrontational.

• Look at it from their point of view.

• Use a mediator.

• There is a time and a place to address issues.

• Action-e-Reaction Communication –Courage

– State the action (the behavior) the other person demonstrated. “When you…”

– Name the emotional reaction to the other person’s action. “I felt…”

• Another Example (positive feedback).– “Amy, I would like to speak with you for a

second.”– “Ok, Bob what can I help you with?”– “Amy, when you told the boss how hard I worked

during that outbreak, I felt rewarded.”

• Now they both feel the positive outcome.
