CAROLL V. DASHIELL, JR. DAVE MIRRA MASTERING THE DOWNBEAT 1994-95 Recipient of the Robert and Lina Mays and Robert L. Jones Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award Assistant Professor of Music, East Carolina University Director of Jazz Studies and Jazz Ensembles, East Carolina University Nominee, Carnegie Foundation Case Award Nominee, UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence Producer/Performer on national and international recordings Howard University alumnus, Masters and Bachelors in Music degrees Washington D.C. native Professional BMX Rider, Competing since 1987 Winner of more X Games Competition medals than any other athlete First to land a double back flip in BMX competition Voted “Freestyler of The Year” by BMX Plus Magazine ESPY Award for Best Male Action Sports Athlete in 2005 Launched video game series: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX Established scholarships through Woodward BMX Camp Hosts the Dave Mirra Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Dream Factory WHERE THE CHAMP PARKS HIS BIKE With citations in Who’s Who in Music and DownBeat Magazine, Carroll V. Dashiell has been recognized for excellence in the music industry as a bassist, musical director, composer/arranger, and an educator. When not performing with the Boston Pops, or talents such as Wynton and Bradford Marsalis, Dashiell is turning East Carolina University music students and the Greenville community on to the art of jazz. He’s the most decorated bike stunt rider in X Games history. BMX Star Dave Mirra dominates the competition vert ramps in major cities around the globe, but when it comes to downtime, he prefers the simplicity of Greenville, North Carolina. He likes being a role model and inspiring youngsters to follow their hearts and find their own destiny. After all, Mirra has found his own action-packed destiny on ramps, in parks, on the streets, and at home in Greenville. “Greenville is an easy town to live in. There’s always something to do! And the community leaders are open to adding new and exciting recreational opportunities in the area.” “Jazz is alive in Greenville. Folks can experience world-class performances by world class artists in intimate settings. Audiences feel connected to each performance and enjoy the experience of great music.”
