Shaggy’sLost Brother?By Bri D.

So from the interview before, you must

have heard Betsy mention Shaggy’s

brother, didn’t you? Now you’re all

probably wondering who he is, so I’m

here to give you the inside scoop!

We talked a bit to Shaggy and his

brother and this is the information we

got.

Roughly ten years ago, Shaggy’s

brother was working as a miner inColorado. One day, he went into the min

and was kidnapped my Ruggedo, the

Nome King. Then recently, Shaggy foun

out that his brother was kidnapped.

When Shaggy (and some friends he

met along the way) found him, his broth

was living in the Metal Forest, living

among the real trees in the forest. He

managed to survive by eating what he

called ‘Three-Course Nuts’ off of ‘Hote

Trees.’

 According to Shaggy’s brother

himself, when he was first kidnapped,

Ruggedo put a terrible spell on him that

made him look ugly. To reverse the spell

a kiss from Polychrome the rainbow’s

daughter, was needed. She happily

obliged, and he was turned back to his

previous state.

Now Shaggy and his brother are

happily residing in Oz with Betsy and th

rest. “I’m very happy,” we have Shaggy a

quoted, “To be able to reacquaint mysel

with my brother.” ~*~*~

MeetBetsy BobbinBy Bri D.

Bri D: Hi Betsy, thanks for coming to

this interview with us.

Betsy Bobbin: Oh, it was no problem

at all. Nice to meet you.

BD: So you’re relatively new to Oz,

am I wrong?

BB: No, you’re not wrong. You see, I

had been with Shaggy Man, his brother

and my dear little mule, Hank, just after I

had gotten out of the Nome Caverns. We

had been walking for a bit, and before I

knew what happened, I had been

transported to Oz.

BD: So how did you get here, in the

first place?

BB: Well, Hank and I had met on a

ship. After a few days of our voyage, aterrible storm came up and we fell

overboard because of if. We were

shipwrecked, and kind of drifted for a

day or two before we accidentally wound

up at The Rose Kingdom. That’s where I

met Shaggy Man.

BD: I see, I see! I’m certainly glad

you’re here, though I’m sorry you had to

go through such a dreadful experience to

get here.

BB: [laughs] No, no, it’s perfectly

fine.

BD: So... What do you think of Oz

so far?

BB: It’s an absolutely wonderful

place! I’m good friends with Dorothy, and

she’s shown me around a bit. At first, I

thought it was so wonderful that all the

girls and boys should come live here!

Ozma explained to me that they couldn’t,

though.

BD: That’s great! I’m glad to have

been able to talk with you!

BB: No, the pleasure was all mine.

[laughs]

RuggedoDefeatedBy Bri D.

You’ve probably heard of the Nome

King. If you haven’t heard before,

you’ve at least heard him mentioned

by Shaggy Man’s brother in the

previous article. This is the story of

his downfall! So here’s the gist of it: Betsy and

Hank, Shaggy Man, Ozga the Rose

Princess, Polychrome the Daughters

Rainbow, Jo Files, Tik-Tok the

Mechanical Man, and Queen Ann of

Oogaboo with her Army, were all on

the way to save Shaggy’s brother.

Quox, a young dragon, was with

them as well. He was sent by Tititi-

Hoochoo to help conquer Ruggedo.

They had gone through a little

trouble trying to get into Ruggedo’s

Caverns, but when they managed too, trouble ensued.

When they all first went into the

Caverns, Queen Ann and the entire

army fell into a large pit. This was because you couldn’t see it

in the darkness of the cave. After they fell in, the hole was

recovered so they couldn’t get back out. Luckily, they found a

secret passage and escaped to meet back up with everyone

else later.

The first into the cavern was Tik-Tok, saying in the

name of Queen Ann that Ruggedo was conquered. Ruggedo

laughed at this and tried to get him to work hammering gold,

but Tik-Tok refused.

About the time this started, Betsy rode in on Hank. She

asked for something to eat for the conquering business is

tiring, but when she said ‘eggs’ (which Nome’s happen to be

afraid of) she ordered her to be taken to the Slimy Cave.

Now Kaliko, who was the Kings Chamberlain, created a

distraction (which happened at Tik-Tok’s expense I’m afraid)

which allowed him to hide Betsy in his bedroom.

Unfortunately, Tik-Tok became immobilized due to

having a large diamond placed on his back, and Shaggy Man

was bound and tied. Soon, Ozga and Files were handcuffed

too.

When Polychrome tried to wager with Ruggedo, the end

result she wanted was not achieved. Instead, Shaggy Manwas turned into a dove! Realizing similar things would

happen to the others, she ran back out to get help from

Quox, who was sleeping outside.

When Quox came in, he soon got captured, and Ozga

had been turned into a fiddle. Ruggedo was about to turn

Files into a fiddle bow when Quox told him the ribbon he

was wearing would make Ruggedo unable to preform any

type of magic. Ruggedo, of course, didn’t believe him, and

tried his luck with magic. He couldn’t preform anything.

Quox then told him the Tititi-Hoochoo condemned him

to wander the earth with only money that could fit in his

pockets. Ruggedo scoffed and said he would stay as king. To

which Quox replied by opening the locket around his neck

and letting out six eggs. These eggs were enchanted to follow

Ruggedo everywhere as long as he was in the caverns, and as

we all should know, Nome’s are very afraid of eggs.

Everyone was reverted back to their old selves by

touching the ribbon on Quox’s neck. Quox then ordered

Kaliko to get Betsy and Hank. When they came back, Quox

appointed Kaliko to be king.

After finding Shaggy’s brother, they found Ruggedo with

the money he had taken falling out of his pockets. Hefollowed them back to the cavern they had been in earlier.

Betsy felt sorry for the sad, old, Nome in the corner so she

talked to Kaliko about letting him stay in the Nome

Kingdom. Kaliko agreed, but said that is Ruggedo did so

much as one bad thing, he would be kicked out again.

And that’s how Ruggedo was defeated!

Ravishing RecipesFrom OzBy Bri D.

Okay, I apologize for the incredibly forced to try to sound good title.

But you didn’t come here for me to apologize about my cheesiness, you came to hear about some of the most popular recipes

in Oz right now! So here’s Ozma’s favorite recipe right now!

Cream Puffs with Dark Chocolate Sauce

Makes 10 servings. Prep time: 15 minutes. Cook time: 40 minutes. Oven temperature: 400°

Ingredients

• 1 cup(s) water• 6 tablespoon(s) butter or margarine• 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt• 1 cup(s) all-purpose flour• 4 large eggs• 4 ounce(s) bittersweet chocolate• 1/2 cup(s) half-and-half or light cream• 1 tablespoon(s) sugar• 1 quart(s) light vanilla ice cream

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease and flour large cookie sheet or spray it with a nonstick spray that contains flour.2. In 3-quart saucepan, heat water, butter, and salt to boiling on medium until butter melts. Remove saucepan from heat.

Vigorously stir in flour all at once until mixture forms ball and comes away from side of pan.3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, until batter becomes smooth and satiny.4. Drop batter by scant 1/4 cups into 10 large mounds, 2 inches apart, onto prepared cookie sheet. With fingertip moistened

with water, gently smooth tops to round.5. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until puffs are a deep golden-brown. Remove cookie sheet from oven; with knife, poke hole in one

side of each puff to release steam. Turn off oven. Return cookie sheet to oven and let puffs stand 10 minutes to dry outslightly. Transfer puffs to wire rack to cool completely.

6. Using serrated knife, slice each cooled puff horizontally in half. With fingers, remove and discard any moist dough inside.7. Meanwhile, coarsely chop chocolate. In 1-quart saucepan, heat half-and-half and sugar just to boiling on medium-high.

Remove saucepan from heat; add chocolate and let stand 1 minute. Whisk until smooth.8. To serve, place 1 scoop ice cream in each cream puff base; replace cream puff top, then drizzle with warm chocolate sauce.

FascinatingNew FashionsBy Bri D.

Again, I apologize for the title. And again, you didn’t come for my apologies.

So at the moment, some of the most popular fashions happen to be very.... sparkly. There are also several very flowy (please

forgive me for not using a real word) pieces. So things like the dress below are very popular right now.

Some people of Oz believe that this is just a ‘fad’ while others think it could be

something staying around for years. The Wizard himself actually believes that this could

be a popular style for a long while.

The popular colors for clothing choices right now are pastel colors. Especially greens,

blues, and yellows.

Dear Advice,

I live in Oogaboo, a very small kingdom, in the Land of

Oz. The Queen, Ann, has just made me a General in her

army. She says that she intends to conquer the Land of Oz

with our small army of seventeen men. I am not completely

certain I want to do this. What do you think, should I go

through with it? I just hope this gets to you in time! -Jo Conflicted

Dear Conflicted,

First of all, hello Jo, thanks for writing. I can understand

why you might be a little conflicted about this. You seem to

understand your chances of conquering anything are low, but

your Queen is telling you to join her army. I think that what

ever happens though, you should keep going with your plan to

be a General. No matter what happens, remember things will

turn out alright. -Advice

Dear Advice,

Recently, I purchased some Love Potion Perfume that’s

often advertised in magazines such as this. I put it on one day

to just see what it smelled like, but I couldn’t smell anything, so

I shrugged it off. When I went out later that day, I had tons of

people following me around. There are still some outside my

house! What do I do to get them to leave?!

-Lovely Loveless

Dear Lovely,

I would suggest something like simple hypnotism on them,

or just take a bath and let the potion wear off. Now that you

know you can’t smell it, I would suggest putting on less. That,or just putting it on around the person you intend to make fall

for you. -Advice

Dear Advice,

I’m working on making an advice column for a school

project, do you think you could help me with it? -Anti-Advice

Dear Anti,

Sure! Just use regular scenarios you think people might

have. Also, think about what kind of advice column it is. That

should help. -Advice

Simple Spells At Home

By Bri D.

Now I’m sure you’ve all hear the typical Abracadabra

Alakazam. Unfortunately, that’s not all you need to make you

house look like a model house. Wanna know what is? Keep

reading!

So you’re obviously reading this if you want to keep you

house in order and looking beautiful. I know there may be so

doubters out there though, so I’m just here to assure you I m

these all myself and am certain they work!

Luckily, Abracadabra does happen to play a part in all th

What you do first is to point your wand (ordering details

bottom of article) at the object you wish to possess. After doi

so, you flick your wrist sharply to the upper right, command object and presto! You’ve possessed something! Remember

though, this does not work on people. What it does do is knock

them out and leave them with a terrible headache.

Speaking of Presto, that’s another spell I’m here to tell y

about! Presto is one of the best stain removers, so why spend

time scrubbing and scrubbing? With your wand, first point to

stain, and say ‘Stain!’ Then draw a loop in the air (this doesn

require pointing your wand in a certain direction, but make s

the loop is upwards), it will appear to look like three bubbles,

more or less ‘attack’ the stain, and you’re stain free! It comes

handy if you have young children around.

Now this is only a little extra, but if you purchase one of

cauldrons along with a wand, you can put ingredients to a reinto it and it will make the recipe as quick as a wink. You’ll h

Bippity Boppity Boo.

That one everlasting beauty spell everyone

knows about. From what you’ve probably heard

about it is that it can change a pumpkin to acarriage, and tattered rags to a beautiful gown.

Unfortunately, for you at home, it can’t do all

that. It can do a good amount, though.

Some of the things it can do is your eye

makeup. The results are absolutely marvelous! What

you need to do is close your eyes and cover your eyes

with your hands, not the typical way though. See the

picture below for further explanation. After you have

this done, say the magic words, and you’re done!

Make sure not to preform the spell more than

once! Typically, the magic takes about half a minute

to work, so don’t be in so much of a rush. Trust me,

you end up looking like a clown if you do the spellenough at once.

This method also works for doing things such as

lipstick. Close your eyes again, put one finger to your

lips as if you were going to shush someone and say

Bippity Boppity Boo, followed by the color you want

it to be. Works like a charm!

There are probably some of you who have

dresses, blouses, or something else that needs to be

fixed and stitched. Guess what? Bippity Boppity Boo

works for this too!

To start it off, you’ll need to lay out your article

of clothing on a clear, flat surface. If you can’t do

that, hang it in an open area. Make sure the clothing

also lays flat and as wrinkle free as possible!

When you have that done, wave your hand in

an outward kind of circle motion (diagram below).

While doing that, say the spell again, followed by

whatever you want to do to the clothing.

Say perhaps your child has some clothing

they’ve grown out of, if you say “Bippity Boppity

Boo Bigger!” the clothing will grow one size. Since it

does only go up one size at a time, you shouldn’t

have to worry about something being too big or too

small.

Remember, Bippity Bobbity Boo works for

almost anything, so try some experimenting at

home! If you find something we might like, send it to

us!

~*~*~

“I use Bippity Boppity Boo for all sorts

of things! From makeup just before a

party, to resizing those old suits you

need but just can’t fit into!”

Bri’sLast NoteBy Bri D.

You may have noticed I’m the writer, editor, etc. of almost everything in

the magazine. Well, if you didn’t, it’s okay too. But the reason for that is

because I had to do everything on my own! The truth is, this isn’t a real

magazine! Surprise! It was all just something I had to do for school. Since I

am an innovator of ideas and such, I’ve decided to make this my reflection

page. Brilliant, aren’t I?

Here are the reflections!

How does it identify the major/minor conflict of the story (resolution, falling action, subplots)?

There are a few articles about things like that.

How does it identify character development?

Well, I suppose the interviews and such have something to do with

character development.

How does your product use appropriate English writing conventions

(mechanics, spelling, etc.)?

This is a magazine! There are appropriate English writing conventions

all over the place!

How does your product identify the aspects of major/minor

characters (physical traits, personality traits, feelings, actions, motives)?

There happen to be pictures (drawn by me) and articles in this

magazine that identify different aspects of the characters.

How does your product identify/describe the setting of the story of

the literary text? What about the importance of the setting to the story?

Not really sure, I’d have to go back and check.

How much time did you spend working on your project?

Definitely more than a few hours.
