This publication aims to share the exciting investments that the Hoosier Trails Council,

is making in the families within our 18-county service area.

The Hoosier Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America is one of several councils serving a specific geographic region within Indiana.

MISSION STATEMENT - It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

SCOUT OATH - On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

SCOUT LAW - A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

The Hoosier Trails Council Service Center is located in Bloomington and serves 18 counties throughout south-central Indiana. The council is divided into four districts, each under the direction of local volunteers and a professional staff member.

Dedication Ceremony of the Marchant Ecology Lodge

The Marchant Ecology Lodge Dedication Ceremony was held Saturday, September 9, 2017; it was a great success and was well attended. Troop 148 ‘s color guard was there to present our flags, summer camp staffers, Executive Board members, donors, Indiana State Representatives, volunteers as well as Wood Badge trainees and staffers all attended this moving ceremony. Lee Marchant shared how Scouting help shape him and expressed how he wanted to share these life-changing experiences with today’s young people. The Marchant Ecology Lodge will provide a permanent facility for the ecology programs at Boy Scout Summer Camp. This beautiful building will allow donated program supplies to be displayed and stored safely from the elements and wildlife all year around. Not only will this facility be used for Boy Scout Summer Camp, but it will also be available to rent in the summer camp off season.

Investor Profile: Mike Baye Dr. Baye is the Bert Elwert Professor of Business at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, a position he has held since 1997. Until the beginning of 2009, he also served as Director of the Bureau of Economics at the US Federal Trade Commission. Dr. Baye has won numerous awards for outstanding teaching and research, and has published several textbooks. His research focuses on pricing strategies and their impact on consumer welfare and firm profits in both online and traditional markets.

His academic work on mergers, auctions, patents, advertising, online markets, and other areas related to antitrust and consumer protection has been published in leading economics and marketing journals. His work appears in the top general economics journals (the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and the Economic Journal), the top journals in economic theory (Econometrica and the Review of Economic Studies), as well as the top field journals in industrial organization (the Rand Journal of Economics, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, and the Journal of Industrial Economics). Additionally, his academic research on pricing strategies in online markets has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and The New York Times. Dr. Baye has lectured and spoken at conferences and academic institutions throughout North America and Europe, and has held visiting appointments at Cambridge, Oxford, Erasmus University, Tilburg University, and the New Economic School in Moscow. In addition to his extensive academic publications and practical anti-trust experience, he has also served on numerous editorial boards in economics as well as marketing. Dr. Baye received his BS from Texas A&M University in 1980 and his PhD in economics from Purdue University in 1983. Beyond his tremendous professional success, Mike is an avid supporter of Scouting and has served in many capacities over the last twenty years, including Executive Board President of the Hoosier Trails Council. Mike and M’lissa Baye have made a meaningful contribution to the Endowment to Support Maumee, so that the capital investments underway will last long into the future. Mike is a perfect example of service before self and the Scouting movement is stronger as a result of his involvement.

How will these investments impact the youth? The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development

organizations. We deliver programs to our area youth that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities

of citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over a century, the Boy Scouts of America has helped build

the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Our

experience demonstrates that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and

productive society.

Gifts to the Hoosier Trails Council are philanthropic investments in both our

area youth and our local communities. Today, the Hoosier Trails Council serves

more than 6,000 youth throughout south-central Indiana. 18% of project costs are

invested to establish a maintenance endowment.
