From the Principal’s Desk Road Safety I would like to say a big thank you to the families of our school. Your diligence and care around our school on the roads has been noticed. Thank you for reporting to me, reporting to the police and the office about your safety concerns around Adelaide Street and the crossing. At the P&C meeting last Monday night it was agreed that a letter would be sent to the council requesting a camera be installed to monitor illegal driving that puts families and students at risk. People who make illegal u turns and drive up gutters and speed up and down the street are concerning and need to be identified so Police can assist us to keep the streets around our school safe. As always please reinforce with your children the lessons taught at school about road safety. If crossing on Adelaide Street, wait to be crossed by the crossing supervisor. If crossing on Sydney Street use extreme caution and cross the road in a group rather than by themselves. Canteen Volunteers I would like to formally acknowledge and thank the volunteers who work in our school canteen every day. Without your care and commitment to our school, the children and families who attend here would have no fresh food or lovely smiles greeting them everyday. “THANK YOU “! There are exciting times ahead with the upgrade of the school canteen kitchen facilities, this work should commence in the School holidays. Please take a moment to say ‘thank you’ to the volunteers to acknowledge the work they do. If you have spare time please leave your name at the canteen and days or times you are available. District Swimming Thank you to Mrs Borg and Mrs Konarew and the parents/carers that supported our students who competed in the District Swimming Carnival. We had 16 students represent our school with true sportsmanship and dedication. We finished the carnival in fourth place. I would like to wish Monique, Liliana and Lachlan all the best as they go on to represent our District at the Sydney West Area Swimming Carnival. Building works about to commence Due to the current state of the roof on our Kindergarten classrooms and year one/two class room (G block) that backs onto the staff carpark it is needing a roof upgrade. This will mean a disruption to routine as classes will be affected by the building works. We never like this type of disruption at any time of the year however it is something that must be completed. On Friday 23 rd March KA and KS Kindergarten classes will move all the furniture out of their classrooms to share the Library as their learning space. Mrs McManus and Ms Pugh on 1/2NJ will move their furniture to the computer room and this will be their learning space. The proposed closing of the building will commence officially on 24 th March and remain as a work zone until the middle of the School holidays. I thank you for your patience while this event occurs. Office News

Office Payments Make Online Payments as of Monday 19th February 2018 It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. An instruction booklet went home with students to help parents make online payments. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting $ Make a payment

Items that can be paid include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance). There is also a category called ‘Other’ this is to cover items not covered in the previous headings, Other can be used to make a complete payment of a school invoice.

When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:

the students name, and

class and reference number OR

the students name, and

date of birth.

These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system. There is also the option to enter the Student Registration Number and Invoice number these are not used at our school, please leave blank. This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school. You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed. Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a receipt has been issued from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school. For any enquiries regarding the Online Payment process please contact the Office on 9623 1375.

Changes to the daily collection of your children As the school office is at its busiest between 8.30 to 9.30am and 2.30 to 3.00pm, we would like to encourage parents/carers to make plans prior to school in regards to changes in pick-up arrangements. Whilst we recognise that at times there can be some unexpected changes in after school arrangements for students, can you please try and minimise calls by pre-organising where possible, with students. At times, the office is inundated with calls and messages needed to be given to students often with only a few minutes notice.

Page 3: Oxley Park Public School...For any enquiries regarding the Online Payment process please contact the Office on 9623 1375. Changes to the daily collection of your children As the school

The wellbeing and safety of students is our paramount concern and we do not want to risk messages not being received or unavoidable confusion.

Sick Notification If you know your child is unwell and will not be attending school there is no need to ring the school. Please send an absence explanation note to the teacher on your child’s return. Absence Explanation notes can be found in the office on the Whole School Note wall. In addition, if your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they have recovered.

Permission Notes

Could you please ensure you write your child’s first name, last name and class when you complete permission notes. It is time-consuming for office staff to have to work out which child a note belongs to if only a first name and no class have been written on the note. A reminder too that when returning permission notes for excursions, camps, and any school activities for which a permission note is sent home, a separate permission note is required for each child. This is a

departmental legal requirement.

Permission notes are to accompany payment (when required) and placed in an envelope and placed in the “money house” in office. If you are paying by cash, cheque or eftpos please write on the envelope your child’s first name, last name, class, what the payment is for and the amount enclosed. Please enclose correct payment and permission note

Student/Family Information Sheet, Student Asthma Record and Scripture note If you have not yet returned your Student/Family Information Sheet, Student Asthma Record or Scripture note for 2018, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you for your support

In 1/2V we have done all sorts of writing:

The little bear went for a walk with mummy bear and daddy bear. They went to the park and when they came back home little bear said somebody has eaten my food. Goldilocks sat on a chair. Then Goldilocks said too hard. She sat in the chair and then she sat on another chair. Then she said too soft and she went to the bedroom and sat on a bed. She said too soft and too

hard. Khian

A bear is a dangerous creature. Bears live in a cave and when people go inside a cave and people make noise it will wake the bear up. A bear has black fur and sharp claws that can kill people and scratch people. A bear scares people. A bear lives in a zoo and a

jungle. Logan

PBL News News from out Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) team is that after receiving feedback from our school community, students and staff late last year, we have a new Diamond level for our Superstar levels. Beginning this term, there is now a fourth level for Superstars. To achieve Diamond level and receive a Diamond badge, students will be required to earn a further 7 Superstars after receiving their Gold ribbon. To reach our Diamond level, students will have already received 5 Superstars for Bronze, another 5 Superstars for Silver, a further 7 Superstars for Gold and finally another 7 Superstars for Diamond which is a total of 24 Superstars each year. To achieve Diamond level, students will have already shown consistency in following the Behaviour Matrix which unpacks what a respectful, safe learner looks like within and out of our school. The matrix is on display in all classrooms. There will be an extra special reward day for students receiving Diamond level which has yet been confirmed. Watch this space. We hope you are enjoying the revamped signage out the front of the school. Diamond now watches the students, parents/carers and the broader community enter and leave the school in a respectful, safe manner. He is also overseeing rubbish taken with you or placed in bins. The old bees that were on the poles will be on display in the preschool and Area 4 by the end of the term. Caught You Being Good cards will now be part of a raffle draw at the end of each term. When you child receives 15 CYBG cards, they exchange for a PBL pencil, pen or wristband. Then one of their cards is kept for a draw of a variety of prizes at the end of the term. This is a new initiative and will be trialled for this year. Morning Playground Changes Trialled this week, we opened up the A3 playground at 8.45am each morning to allow students to move into this area to reduce the number of students in Area 1 up until the 9am bell. This is a trial for Term 1. Please discuss this change with your child as they will be expected to wait in A1 with parents and caregivers until a teacher in a yellow vest is on duty in Area 3. Activities in this area are as for A1 ie. handball, skipping, sitting if eating. Students will be reminded that this is still a walk and play safely area. Breakfast Club Thank you to the students who use the Breakfast Club facilities. Please note that all students eating food are expected to be sitting on a silver seat until they have finished their food. Please place all rubbish including dropped cheese, bread in the nearest yellow rubbish bin.

SRC Leading the Way Workshops Last Thursday, all of our SRC students were invited to a workshop with Tim from Values for Life about how to be an effective leader. The workshops were in three groups – School and Sport Leaders, Stage Two and Three classes SRC and Stage One class SRC. Tim inspired and challenged our students to be the best leaders they can be. He pointed out that being a leader doesn’t rely on how well you speak or what you look like.

We played games showing you can have fun while being a leader – Kaycee S3

Good leaders equal good role models, responsible and trustworthy – Rachel S3

You don’t have the be the best at something to be a leader – Lizzie S3

Even though life can be unfair, never give up – Liliana S3

Take care of others as well as yourself – Ciara S3

You may not be good at maths but you can still be a good leader to others – Anastasia S3
