CAUTION: KEEP AWAY FROM THEROTATING BLADE. THE BLADE CANCAUSE INJURY.

FILL/ADD OIL:

The engine on this edger was shipped with little or no oil.Add oil before you start the engine, Place the edger on alevel surface Remove the oil fill cap (Fig 7). Fill theengine crankcase to point of overflowing using about 2Iounces (1_It4 pts) of Sears SAE !0W-30 motor oil orequivalent Reinstall the oil fill cap

FILL GAS:

The operation of this edger can result in foreign objects being thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses or eye shieldswhile operating the edger. We recommend standard safety gtasses or Wide Vision Safety Mask for over yourglasses

Fill the fuel tank (See Fig 7) wilh clean, fresh, unleadedgrade automotive gasoline. Be sure that the containeryou pour the gasoline from is clean and free from dust orother foreign particles. Never use gasoline that may bestale from long periods of storage in the container

Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in thefuel tank or permanenl damage that may occur.

CAUTION: GASOLINE tS FLAMMABLEAND CAUTION MUST BE USED WHENHANDLING OR STORING IT. DO NOT

FILL FUEL TANK WHILE EDGER IS RUNNING,HOT, OR WHEN EDGER IS IN AN ENCLOSEDAREA_ KEEP AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME, ELEC-TRICAL SPARK, AND DO NOT SMOKE WHILEFILLING THE FUEL TANK. NEVER FILL FUELTANK COMPLETELY; BUT FILL THE TANK TOWITHIN 1/4 - 1/2 INCH FROM THE TOP TO PRO-VIDE SPACE FOR EXPANSION OF FUEL. AL-WAYS FILL FUELTANK OUTDOORS AND USE AFUNNEL OR SPOUT TO PREVENT SPILLING°MAKE SURE TO WIPE UP ANY SPILLED FUELBEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE.

STORE GASOLINE IN A CLEAN, APPROVEDCONTAINER, AND KEEP THE CAP IN PLACE ONTHE CONTAINER° KEEP GASOLINE IN A COOL,WELL VENTILATED PLACE; NEVER IN THEHOUSE. NEVER BUY MORE THAN A 30 DAYSUPPLY OF GASOLINE TO ASSURE VOLATIL-ITY GASOLINE IS INTENDED TO BE USED AS A

FUEL FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES;THEREFORE_ DO NOT USE GASOLINE FOR ANYOTHER PURPOSE. SINCE MANY CHILDREN LIK ETHE SMELL OF GASOLINE, KEEP IT OUT OFTHEIR REACH BECAUSE THE FUMES ARE DAN-GEROUS TO INHALE, AS WELL AS BEING EX-PLOSIVE.

o The oil in the crankcase must be changed after thefirst2 hours of operation and after each 25 hours ofuse thereafter.

NOTE: If the edger is being used in sandy or dustyareas, change the oil more frequently to preventpremature engine wear.

To change the crankcase oil:

® Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug..

o Remove the oil drain plug (See Fig. 8) and drain theoil into a flat pan. After draining all the oil, reinstallthe oil drain securely.

To prevent engine damage ( if edger is not used for morethan 30 days) follow the steps below°

ENGINE STORAGEGasoline must be removed or treated to prevent gumdeposits from forming In the tank, fitter, hose, andcarburetor during storage. Also during storage, al-cohol blended gasoline that uses ethanol or metha-nol (sometimes called gasohol) attracts water. It actson the gasoline to form acids which damage theengine.

You can keep your engine In good operating condi-tion during storage by:

• Changing oil.

• Lubricating the piston/cylinder area. This can bedone by first removing the spark plug and squirtingclean engine oil into the spark plug hole Then coverthe spark plug hQte with a rag to absorb oil spray_Next, rotate the engine by pulling the starter two orthree times_ Finally, reinstall spark plug and attachspark plug wire_

EDGER STORAGE

o To remove gasoline, run the engine until the tank isempty and the engine stops.

• If you do not want to remove gasoline, a fuelstabilizer (such as Sears Craftsman fuel stabilizerNo..33500) may be added to any gasoline Iett in thetank to minimize gum deposits and acids_ If the tankis almost empty, mix stablilizer with fresh gasolinein a separate container and add some to the tank.ALWAYS FOLLOW INSTRUCTIOHS ON STABI-

LIZER CONTAINER. THEN RUN ENGINE ATLEAST 10 MINUTES AFTER STABILIZER ISADDED TO ALLOW MIXTURE TO REACH CAR-BURETOR. STORE EDGER IN A SAFE PLACE.SEE WARNING ABOVE.

• Store the edger in the wheels-down, operatingposition. If the edger is stored in any other position, oil from the crankcase could enter the cylinder, causing a service problem_

Clean lhe edger thoroughly; remove all debris andwipe the unit dry.

Inspect the edger for worn or damaged parts andtighten all loose hardware

Oil all points described in the Lubrication para-graph in the Maintenance section of this manual

Store the edger in a protected area and cover foradditional protection

IMPORTANT: A YEARLY CHECKUP OR TUNEUP BYA SEARS SERVICE CENTER tS AGOOD WAY OF INSURING THATYOUR EDGER WILL PROVIDEMAXIMUM PERFORMANCE FORTHE NEXT SEASON.
