The American people get to

vote for a new president every

four years. 2012 is an election

year. This year there are two people called candidates run-

ning for President. A presi-

dent can run for a second

term, so President Barack

Obama is running again.

President Obama is from the

Democratic Party. The other

candidate is Mitt Romney. He

is from the

Republican Party. You do not

have to be a Republican or a Democrat to run for president.

One of the requirements to be

a candidate for president is

that you have to be 35 years

or older. On November 6th the country will vote for the

president. Some people will

vote early because they will

be out of the country or busy

that day. Most people make

their decision on whom to

vote for by watching debates

on TV to see what each candi-

date will do to help our coun-

try be the best it can be. You

have to deicide who you will think will do the best job

leading our country.

The biggest issues people

worry about are education, health care, and money spent

on war (national security).

Have you done your research?

Who would you vote for No-

vember 6th if you were 18?

Third, fourth, and fifth grad-

ers are Olsen Park will con-

duct their own mock election,

so listen and learn all you can about your candidates!

different schools we come

we lost or first two games. At our next practice, we set

The Heroes of Olympus is packed with adventure! This is for people who like Greek mythology. It is about a

teenager named Percy Jackson. He is the son of Poseidon/Neptune. He has two friends one named Frank Zhang

and the other named Hazel. But they have to rescue the god of death from the giants. Will they save him or will

Gaea awaken before they get there? You will have to read it to find out!

If you don’t like myths, magic, and monsters, you might like The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is about a cater-

pillar that eats a lot to become a butterfly. Will he finally do it after 1 week of just eating? Find out in this exciting

book!

A person of character is . . . a good person, someone to look up to, to admire, A person of character is someone who

knows the difference between right and wrong, always tries to do what is right, and sets a good example for every-

one. Also a person would make the world a better place and lives according to the six pillars of character, which are

trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. For this month we will be talking about words that describe Trustworthiness:

Integrity- do: Stand up for your beliefs, follow your conscience, always have courage, and be honorable and up-

right. Don’t: lose heart if you fail or don’t get what you want. Reliability-do: Keep your promises, honor your words ands commitments, be dependable, do what your supposed to

do, return what you burrow, pay your debts, and be on time.

Honesty-do: Tell the truth and nothing but truth, be sincere. Don’t: lie, cheat, steal, and don’t be sneaky and decep-tive.

Loyalty- do: Stand by and protects family and friends, be a good friend, look out for those who care about you, and

keep secrets between the people you trust. Don’t: betray trust, let your friends hurt themselves, treat others how you

would like to be treated, and don’t ask a friend to hurt other or gossip.

These Olsen Owls received Outstanding Owls for being trustworthy: Ruth Vasquez, Deaven Tijernia, and Brandon.

Great job, Owls!
