The project plan: The base for ideal starting point

The planning and design of a system starts with drawing up a project

plan. This involves the graphic representation of the ski trails or snow-

making system, and provides the basis for designing and developing

the concept. Once the areas to be covered in snow have been de-

fi ned, the pumping stations, pipelines and snowmakers are designed

individually for the customer and illustrated in the project plan. This

provides you with a clear framework for your project. Assisted by strict

quality control procedures, experts from DEMACLENKO guide you

through the entire project.

1WATER SUPPLY The Reservoir: A reliable water storage

for the entire system

Reservoirs are the ideal solution for ski areas where large quantities of water are not available.

Reservoirs constantly ensure the necessary water feed for the system, and therefore guarantee the

constant availability of water over the brief snowmaking period.

RESERVOIR: Water availability must be guaranteed during snow production, so that every minute of the snowmak-ing period can be exploited. DEMACLENKO creates a huge range of solutions – from small reservoirs to large ones with a capacity of up to 400.000 m³ (105,688,000 gallons).

CIRCULATION: This technique is used to keep the surface of the water ice free, lower the tempera-ture of the water and prevent the formation of algae in the summer. The DEMACLENKO lake aeration system is planned and adapted for every artifi cial lake.

The pumping station: the beating heart of the system

Cooling system, warm water basin, and cold water basin. Ideally,

the water is pumped from the stilling or warm water basin to the cool-

ing tower. Thanks to the special honeycomb mesh and counterfl ow

of air, the water is effi ciently cooled before it fl ows into the cold water

basin. The solutions developed by DEMACLENKO, such as the layout

and positioning of the cooling towers close to the basin, have proven

their effectiveness in all systems around the world. A cooling system

lowers the water temperature and increases the effi ciency of the

snowmaking system. The colder water enhances snow production

and the snowguns’ effi ciency, therefore optimising energy effi ciency.

Submersible pump. The warm water that is conveyed to the cooling

towers is cleaned again beforehand, to remove the remaining residues

of dirt particules. The KC type pumps used are special submersible

models for fl uids. They impress with their superior quality, reliability

and long life, and are ideally suited for use directly in the water.

In the cold water basin, DEMACLENKO prefers to install a multi-sta-

ge immersion pump, to ensure an exact and constant inlet pressure

through the self-cleaning fi lter and the pumps on the surface.

The 3D drawings of the pumping stations pre-cisely illustrate every detail, ensuring that the pumping station design perfectly meets the cus-tomer’s requirements.

PIPES: DEMACLENKO plans every station down to the smallest detail – building plans mostly form the basis for this. Pipework plans provide the fi rst insight into the type of pumping station to be constructed. This way, all the pipework, from the low-pressure wall duct to brackets, pipe supports, drainpipes and small pipes, can be prefabricated in the appropriate pres-sure stages and, in most cases, galvanised by trained specialists in our in-house metalworking shops.

SENSORS AND VALVES: All valves, slide valves, caps, etc. and their drives (electric, pneumatic, manual) are selected to suit each customer’s requirements, and positioned in the most user-friendly way. The pumping station is then completed by measuring and control instrumentation and electrical measuring and control devices from renowned manufacturers.

Self-cleaning fi lter. Even with extremely dirty water, automatic wa-

ter fi lters guarantee non-stop operation of the system. The fl ushing

process takes place after set periods or is activated automatically by

the differential pressure caused by the dirt.

UV water disinfection system. Single or multi-stage disinfection

systems can be provided if the customer wishes or if required by

the authorities. UV treatment ensures that the water is clean from a

biologically and bacteriologically clean.

High-pressure pumps. DEMACLENKO uses single or multi-stage

high-pressure pumps as primary pumps, as they are extremely reli-

able, robust and effi cient. Our horizontal high-pressure pumps boast

a pressure output of 1-100 bar (14-1450 PSI) and are driven with the

aid of inverters and soft starters.

Electrical cabinets. The electrical cabinets are also planned and

implemented by DEMACLENKO. Here, DEMACLENKO makes use

of the latest, most innovative technologies on the market. Effi ciency

and an ideal user interface enable smooth handling by the snow-

makers.

Mobile pumps. These are suitable for producing snow over small

to medium-sized areas, or for temporary solutions where there is no

fi xed infrastructure. The different versions enable the use of up to

two snowmakers. Mobile pumps are especially suitable for getting

the necessary snow onto cross-country ski routes or toboggan runs.

The compressor station for systems with central compressed air supply

Compressed air is a fundamental prerequisite for snowmaking. A cen-

tralised compressed air supply can be put in place. In this case, the

snow guns do not have their own compressors, but are supplied with

compressed air from the compressor station via PE pipes. DEMAC-

LENKO uses compressors of the very best brands, which are de-

signed for the air consumption of snowmakers.

Ventilation systems are planned and installed, to optimise the com-

pressed air and ambient temperatures. From simple support fans to

channelled ventilation systems, our specialists get to grips with every

necessity.

Air contains water and oil residues from the compressors, dirt particles

and other contaminants commonly found in the air. By using a variety

of fi lters, compressed air free of impurities, is transported throughout

the compressed air system.

3PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION

Cast iron (water). Ductile cast iron has very strong mechanical properties. The restraining push-

fi t joint ensures absolute tightness, even under major loads. Even at a pressure of up to 100 bar

(1470 PSI), subsidence, soil movement, erosion and forces due to internal pressure are offset with

maximum safety and reliability. Fewer pipe fi ttings are needed, as the pipe joints can bend up to 5°.

PE (air). For water transport and distribution pipes and, in particular, for air pipes

where central compressor stations are used, DEMACLENKO employs polyethylene

pipes of material grade PE100. PE pipes are supplied in bars or rolls, depending on

the diameter and requirement, and are securely connected by means of electro-weld-

ed joints or threaded connections. Our offer is rounded off by a large range of fi ttings.

Steel. Steel pipes with quick-release couplings can be produced with especially thin

walls without impairing their dimensional stability. Their low weight eases transpor-

tation, handling and installation. Untreated steel pipes can be supplied either with or

without PE anticorrosion coating outer insulation, and are welded on the construc-

tion site. PIP

Cables: High-quality materials for special needs

Power cables. DEMACLENKO uses aluminium or copper cables for

power lines in compliance with the relevant national standards. The

cables have a cross-section from 10-240 mm² (½” to 9 ½”) and are

inserted and buried underground either directly or with a cable conduit.

Grounding. The ground wire generally consists of zinc-coated steel

with a diameter of 10 mm² (½”) or, if necessary, with a separate conduc-

tor, in line with regulations. The grounding system connects the entire

system and protects it from power surges and lightning strikes.

Communication cables. The data connection between the different

parts of the system is accomplished with protected cables that are

suitable for routing directly underground, but are preferably inserted

in a cable conduit. Over large distances and for large volumes of data,

fi bre-optic cables are used.

Tapping points: Pits and overground hydrants for use in the mountains

Pits. When designing the tapping points, DEMACLENKO pays particular attention to the question

of installation and maintenance, but also to safety and work convenience. DEMACLENKO offers pits

of concrete (series C) or fi breglass reinforced plastic (series Z). Both types are ideal for use in the

snowmaking sector. As we prefabricate the parts, they can be installed on the construction site

quickly and easily, and are suitable for all types of ground. The pits are specially shaped to allow

pleasant working, as there is very generous space inside. There are double hatches in the pits, so

that one can be used exclusively for access, while the second, thanks to its fl ange connection, can

accommodate any type of snowmaker – from mobile versions to lances and even tower-mounted

fan guns. This means that separate foundations are no longer required to fi x snowmakers in a per-

manent location. In addition, the pits contain all the connections for water, air, electricity and control.

For this reason, pits from DEMACLENKO offer a fantastic level of convenience and fl exibility.

Spur line. Spur lines specially developed by DEMACLENKO with fl exible high-pressure hoses de-

signed in-house allow the pits to be located at precisely the right spot, and absorb movements

of the cast iron pipes.

Looped version: To do away with the use of branch tees underground, the power cable is looped

through the snow pit and clamped to a rail system (this way, the terminal can be directly connected). PIP

“snowVisual” control software

snowVisual control software: Fully automated snowmaking from a completely new perspective

DEMACLENKO has developed the special snowVisual control system, which is optimised for con-

trolling snowmakers, pumping stations and cooling towers. snowVisual features a smart user

interface, enabling you to control and monitor the system at all times. Once the necessary operating

conditions for snowmaking have been reached, snowVisual starts up the snowmaker in the blink of

an eye.

The entire snowmaking system on the screen. With control software snowVisual by DEMAC-

LENKO, not only will you fi nd general information about snowmaking products, but also a view of

the entire system, which you can access from anywhere at your convenience. Detailed zooming

enables you to check individual snowmakers, weather stations and pumping stations in real time.

Two screens are available: the fi rst provides geographical orientation, the second shows details of

the individual components. Filters enable fast and effi cient use.

Always everything under control. snowVisual guarantees that important parameters, such as the

water temperature and water pressure of the snowmaker and the water and electricity consumption

of the pumping station, are regularly updated. Its optimum management of resources ensures

high-quality snowmaking.

Reporting. snowVisual features a highly detailed reporting function, enabling you to analyse the

system at any time. This way, you can improve production sequences and considerably reduce

the time and running cost of setting the snow making system. For example, the quantity of snow

produced per pit can be measured and analysed with great accuracy.
