Overweight and Obesity in ChildrenThe prevalence of obesity increases with age throughout

childhood. In 1996, around 13% of 8 year olds and 17% of 15 year olds in England were obese. These levels of childhood obesity are likely to exacerbate the trend towards increased overweight and obesity in the adult population: compared to thin children, obese children have a two-fold increase in the

risk of becoming overweight adults.

Since the last 200 years the pollution rate in the UK has increased dramatically by 45.6%. The way that students travel to school everyday can effect the rate of pollution by 3.6%. Cars release nitrogen dioxide which contributes to acid rain and global warming…this way is the most popular to travel to school

The most popular way of transport for students in Hounslow is using cars, 48.86% of students use a care for their daily transport. 31.65% of students use the bus as their transport system every day. However only 17.54% of students walk or take a bike to school.

•To reduce the number of cars for all the school journey by 10% from 30%

•To encourage more students to cycle to school and increase from 1.3% to 10%

•To encourage more students to walk to school (increase by 6% from 39% to 45%

•To improve the quality of our facilities and environment (lockers, bicycle storage etc) to meet our target increase of 8.7%

•To improve attitudes and awareness of students and staff through education and training.

As part of the yr9 travel plan we need YOUR help to target 18 incoming year 7 and year 8 students to take part in a cycle training programme for year 7 with Susan Guichard (Cycling Provisional officer). The staff will take part as well to help encourage the students to cycle to school and help the community be pollution free!

We all can make a difference by using the public transport provided by the government e.g.. Trains and buses or get onto our bikes and cycle like professionals to school.
