OverviewSo, Mr. Popper decides to write a letter to Admiral Drake, an explorer that Mr. Popper admires, regarding how much Mr. Popper enjoys hearing about Admiral Drake’s journeys. Mr. Popper also mentions in the letter that he loves the Antarctic’s animals, especially the penguins.

Overview Admiral Drake receives the letter and sends Mr. Popper a gift. A penguin arrives as a pet for Mr. Popper to care for as a pet from Admiral Drake!

Although his family was quite surprised, Mr. Popper was able to keep the penguin he named Captain Cook. Captain Cook soon became part of the family.

But, sadly, Captain Cook became extremely ill.
