Every day the children were engaged in different interesting activities and games (indoor and
outdoor). The KidSmart Early Learning Center was a huge success with the children as it
gave them an opportunity to acquaint themselves with computers and learn to operate them
all the while absorbing knowledge (vocabulary, math and spelling). They were also taught
various crafts, chess, tennikoit, volleyball, caroms and other outdoor games like Kho Kho,
football etc.
The highlight of the camp was the magic show by Ravi Chandra, a hearing impaired
magician who enthralled the children with his fascinating magic acts. He also patiently taught
the children a couple of tricks.
On 12th May, a session on the services of EMRI and a live demo of 108 Ambulance wasorganized in the school play ground. Paramedics explained the importance of emergency
services, how to summon the ambulance, the importance of saving lives during the golden
hour etc.
The Summer Camp was unique as the children attending it came from diverse backgrounds.
While children from government and private schools participated, a majority of the children
came from underprivileged sections of the community. The parents of the children also
participated in the camps and were delighted that their children could spend their summer
vacations in a productive way. Most of the parents were working as domestic servants, auto
drivers, security, daily laborers, coconut and fruit vendors.
The camp culminated with a splendid valedictory function on Saturday, 28th May 2011.

Mohanthy, Deputy Inspector of Schools, Dept. of Education were chief guests for the
valedictory function.

various activities the children were involved during the camp.
Children performed songs, dances, recited rhymes and put up a puppet show with a moral
story. Akash was the happiest child of the lot as his birthday was celebrated which was
special for him, as he never had a birthday celebration before.
C.V.N. Varma interacted with the children and urged them to study well, as education is what
helps one to reach goals. He also stressed the importance of setting goals in life and only hard
work will lead to success.

Volunteering
At Mahindra Satyam Foundation, we believe that amazing things happen when people come
together. This core belief on which all initiatives of The Foundation are established comes
true time and again. With a passionate and energetic workforce ready to contribute their bit to
the well-being of the society, volunteering becomes a way of life in Mahindra Satyam.
Volunteering coupled with technology, the two key differentiators of the Foundation, are
used to tackle the various social disparities plaguing our society, with consistent positiveoutcomes.
Mahindra Satyam Foundation carries out its programs primarily through Mahindra Satyam
Volunteers, following a three tier Pyramid model:
A base of large number of volunteer-driven events: Large number of volunteers
(requiring generic skill, small time-commitment , one-time volunteering also fits in)
A narrower next level of activities: Higher volunteer engagement (specific skill,
longer time duration , ongoing): Magnificent seven (M 7) volunteers and full time
volunteering
A top-level of advocacy for right causes at right places, using Mahindra Satyam
strengths
Magnificent Seven (M7) - A Unique Approach to Volunteering
In line with Mahindra Satyams standards for doing quality work, Mahindra Satyam
Foundation has initiated a unique process to improve efficiency in volunteering projects, by
using the full-cycle leadership concept.

Case Studies
A little motivation goes a long way
15-year old Shambhavi secured 480 out of 600 marks in the 10th
class Board exams conducted in March 2008. Behind this
achievement is a story of sheer determination - a determination to
succeed.
Shambhavi is the youngest of three children and lives in a slum
adjacent to the Old Hyderabad Airport named Anna Nagar, in
Secunderabad. Last year, the month of November was celebrated asChildrens Special Month by Mahindra Satyam Foundation with
more than 200 Mahindra Satyam associates regularly visiting Govt. Schools in Hyderabad
and Secunderabad. Motivating the students of class 10, helping them set their goals in life
was one of the exercises the volunteers took up on a regular basis. During one such session,
inspired by our volunteers, Shambhavi declared to her fellow students that her dream in life is
to become an Engineerand started working towards reaching her goal.
Sambhavis joy knew no bounds when she was selected into the Indian Institute of
Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT). She attributes her success to the Mahindra
Satyam team who mentored and motivated her.
Her teacher Mrs. Nirmala said, Our school is very proud that she was selected for IIIT fromour mandal, despite the fact that we do not have proper infrastructure or teaching aids. The
credit definitely goes to Mahindra Satyam Foundation and the M7 team who supported us
and the students in many ways. We look forward for the same support this academic year
also.
Theres always hope!
Mohsin was a bright child, pursuing his 9th standard, when he was caught stealing bikes with
his friends. A victim of circumstances, he is confined to the Observation Home for boys
where he is serving his term before he could be released. With a very bleak future, Mohsinsdreams turned to dust.
Luckily for Mohsin, Mahindra Satyam Foundations interventions with the most vulnerable
children changed his perspective on life. A highly dedicated team of Mahindra Satyam
Volunteers visited the Observation Home regularly on weekends, spending time with the
children, bonding, mentoring, motivating, coaching, teaching and rekindling their dreams.
Over a period of time, there was a marked positive change in Mohsins thinking. He is now
intent on passing his 10th standard exams and working hard. He speaks in English and loves
to recite Hindi poetry and has made up his mind to be somebody in the future- preferably a
pilot.
With sparkling eyes and confident speech, this change in Mohsins attitude has amazed thewarden of the Home. The warden and the Superintendant also affirmed that after Mahindra
