Bartosz Belter, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center
FIRE-GENI MeetingWashington D.C., September 2015
FELIX Monitoring System (MS)
• Overview– Monitoring the slice(s) dynamically provisioned over the FELIX testbed
• Cooperates with the Resource Orchestrator (RO) for overall view– Hierarchical structure in a manner same as RO
• Master MS (MMS): Hierarchical at upper level (e.g. the continent level)– Collecting all monitoring data from distributed MS
• MS: Distributed, deployed at each island– Gathering the monitoring data of the island and aggregating to MMS
Components of (M)MS
• Topology API– Accept the topology information of the
physical/slice subject to the monitoring– Provide it to external entities– Proprietary API (REST)
• Monitoring Data Collector– Gathering the monitoring data from the actual
infra. Monitoring tools.• ex) perfSONAR, Zabbix, SNMP tools
– Aggregating and forwarding the data• MS to MMS• between MMS
• Monitoring API– Accept the monitoring data from external
entities– Provide it to external entities – Proprietary API (REST)
Monitoring GUI on Expedient
End-User Tools for Monitoring
• GUI for monitoring – Displaying the monitoring data with the
physical and slice topology– It retrieves the data through
Topology/Monitoring API of MS – GUI is extend of the expedient which is the
client GUI tool of slice management.
