1. IPDR-WS: Rationale* Purpose: To provide a forum for a synergetic

framework among existing and emerging initiatives for information platforms on disaster reduction (IPDR).

* Notion:+ Various disaster reduction information platforms have

been established or being developed+ Contributing to disaster reduction purposes+ Individual initiatives are acting rather independently* The IPDR Workshop is expected to enhance

understanding among them and promote collaboration.

* Regional Focus: On the Asian context, but with global perspectives

* Organizers+ Sponsor: NIED (National Research Institute for

Earth Science and Disaster Prevention), and JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency)

+ Co-organizers: UN-ISDR, CAO, MEXT, ADRC, AGORA, ICHARM

DRH-Asia Project: DRH Links+A single DRH can not solve everything. +We need links to other relevant initiatives.

+They need to be based on synergetic relation among relevant initiatives.

• Knowledge sharing and common solution identification among experts in disaster sciences should be encouraged,

• Sound knowledge and good data are the basis of effective disaster reduction planning,

• Infrastructure to gather, store and exchange data should be enhanced,

• Construction of databases and networks to transfer knowledge and skills are critical, and

• Right to access information on hazards, risks and effective measures should be clearly set out in policy and law.

2. Roles in the ASTF+ The IPDR-WS: Organized under the Asian Science and
