Dynamic GPU Font Rendering
Overview Advanced Text Layout
Language Support
Compability
S renders character glyphs on the GPU directly from outline data composed of quadrac Bézier curves to produce crisp text at any scale or from any perspecve. S uses our exclusive mathemacal algorithm to achieve perfect robustness with high performance. The following list highlights some of the features of the rendering system.
• Mulcolor emoji rendering.• Geometric glyph outline effect.• Supersampling for minificaon.• Opmizaons for large font sizes.• Strong opcal weight opon.
S is a soware library that performs complex text layout and renders beauful resoluon-independent glyphs with the graphics hardware. It is intended to be used by a wide variety of applicaons for all of their text rendering needs, which may include drawing graphical user interfaces and placing text inside a 3D world or virtual environment.
S gets its name from the history of typography. A “slug” is what typeseers used to call a full line of text cast as one piece of hot lead by a Linotype machine.
S provides a large number of typographical capabilies that include extensive support for OpenType features.
• Scale, offset, stretch, and skew transforms.• Tracking and kerning adjustments.• Ligature substuon (standard, discreonary, and historical).• Glyph composion (includes skin tones and ZWJ sequences).• Combining diacric mark placement.• Stylisc and historical alternates.• Small capitals and tling capitals.• Case-sensive alternate forms.• Tabular and proporonal figures.• Lining and old-style figures.• Subscripts and superscripts (transform and glyph based).• Ordinals and scienfic inferiors.• Fracons (numerator, denominator, and slash substuon).• Underline and strikethrough decoraons.• Paragraph alignment and line breaking.• Embedded format direcves.
S supports the complete range of Unicode characters and works with strings encoded as UTF-8.
Right-to-le scripts are fully supported, and S can perform bidireconal text layout.
Cursive joining is supported with automac selecon of inial, medial, and final forms.
S is rendering the text shown in the 2D overlay as well as the text that is embedded in the 3D scene.
The S C++ library is plaorm agnosc and can be run on any modern operang system. It makes no external funcon calls, and it does not allocate memory.
The shaders used by S can be compiled in several different shading languages and require hardware having only DX10 or OpenGL 3.3 capabilies.
