Overhead Reel Maintenance:Overhead reel maintenance is very important part of fishing. The general thought is that its a chore, but I think other ise! you dont antyour reel to sei"e up on that pri"ed fish no do you #ut first, there are a fe things you should do before putting your greasy mitts on the reel hich ill keep your purchase in tip top condition years from no :

$irstly you should get a hold of some pure paste carnauba a% & ith no man made additives'. (pply the a% uniformly on all e%ternalsurfaces reachable, such as side plates, handle, star drag, reel seat, frame and especially the spool as salt ater logged line corrodes yourspool )uickly. (llo a% to ha"e then buff lightly ith a soft cotton cloth making sure you remove all the a% from corners and other hideyholes. *e%t, remove side plates and using a aterproof, rustproof and corrosion proof spray. #e it lanoguard or hatever your favouritebrand, spray the insides of the side plates, this prevents corrosion+rust on reels ith aluminium+alloy side plates, hich is a commonoccurrence after many years of hard ork.

(fter doing the above to your ne reel, spool up the reel ith your favourite line, attach a lure of lead eight of some sort, and cast and

retrieve - /-- times over ater or a grass field, or 0ust go out lure fishing for an afternoon, you should easily rack up that many casts. Thereason for this as hen parts are machined little burrs and machining marks are left and the /-- or so retrieves grinds a ay all those littlenasties, only a select fe manufacturers buff every single internal part of the reel removing these burrs but they ill all benefit from thisrunning in. Once you get back for casting give your reel a good ash ith arm soapy ater then rinse ith fresh ater and allo to dry.(fter doing the above, using the aid of your schematic diagram hich came in your bo% the reel needs to be striped do n so every partremovable has been removed, cleaned, &best done ith an old toothbrush' regreased or oiled and then placed e%actly back here it camefrom. $or this e%ercise I ill be sho ing the procedure to striping do n a mag converted (bu 1arcia 2 --343T:

$or this particular reel all you need is the (bu tool hich came ith the reel and a very small tipped, flat scre driver.

/. Remove the right hand side plate via the three thumb scre s, taking the spool and its spindle out.5. Remove the right hand end cap sho ing the retaining clip for the spindle, using (bu tool or fingers unclip and the spindle can no beremoved from the opposite side.4. *o proceed to remove the handle, unscre the plastic+metal retainer and cover to sho the cir clip.6. The cir clip is one of t o parts on an (bu overhead hich gives many people trouble, using a piece of paper or ideally a plastic bag, useyour small tipped scre driver to 7pop off the clip into the safety of a plastic bag, if you do lose the clip and you hear it bounce around theroom 8 get a magnet an search the area you heard it rest at.

. *o remove the handle spring asher and star drag pieces. I recommend you place all the parts in a line in the order you have taken themoff, to avoid confusion on reassembling. 9ou may remove the t o ashers sitting on the roller bearing housing, but 0est remember to putthem back ontop of the housing not underneath..
