Over the weekend, the Highway Department honored all of the

recent retirees at their annual dinner.

At last Thursday’s board meeting, the Town Board presented the following proclamation:

WHEREAS, the Town of Webster, New York is proud to have been the home of the Ukrainian Cultural Center of Rochester, NY for many years; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Webster, New York wishes to extend greetings and a warm welcome to the representatives of the historic City of Dnipro, Ukraine, which is celebrating its 245th Anniversary in September; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Webster, New York wishes to acknowledge the life and works of Professor Wolodymyr "Mirko" Pylyshenko, who during his lifetime, amassed a large collection of rare books, photographs, press, human interest stories, interviews and written materials, documenting the history of Ukrainian and Ukrainian-American people who lived, worked, and established churches and cultural organizations in greater Rochester, New York during the last one hundred years, thereby becoming an integral part of our very strong and diverse community; and

WHEREAS, the aforementioned Pylyshenko collection, known as the UKRAINIAN ROCHESTER COLLECTION (URC), is presently housed at the University of Rochester Rare Books, Special Collections and Preservation, River Campus libraries; and

WHEREAS, Ukraine gained its independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991, and on August 24, 2021 will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary of Independence:

From County Legislator George Hebert:

For those of you with interests on Irondequoit Bay/Lake

Ontario water levels the following may be of interest.

The International Joint Commission (IJC) Great Lakes water

levels boards invite you to attend a webinar scheduled for

Friday, August 27 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm (EDT). This

meeting will be hosted in English. A French meeting will be

announced soon.

The International Lake Superior Board of Control,

International Niagara Board of Control, and International

Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board will provide an

overview of the current and forecast conditions of the Great

Lakes and discuss water levels throughout the system.

In addition to information shared by the three Boards, the

Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Adaptive Management

(GLAM) Committee will present an update on the ongoing

review of Plan 2014, and the current work for the

International Lake Superior Board on the upper lakes. All

interested parties are invited to attend.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions in various

communities in both Canada and the United States, this

meeting will be virtual and hosted using GoToWebinar.

Friends of Webster Trails:

Join us for a Friends of Webster Trails Group Hike

Date: Saturday August 28, 2021

Time: Meet at 8:45 am

Hike begins promptly at 9 am

Meeting Location: Bird Sanctuary Trail

Head

Parking: Orchard Street

This is a 3.1 mile hike led by Anna Taylor. We will

hike the Bird Sanctuary Trail to Chiyoda Trail,

continue around the loop at the Parks and Rec

Building and return back to our cars, the way we

hiked out. This is an opportunity to hike with other

trail lovers, and enjoy some time on the Trails.

This hike will be held rain or shine, but any changes

to the event will be communicated via meet up.

Please leave your pets at home for this group hike,

and bring them back to explore these areas with you

another day.

Coat Collection Continues Through

September 1st

Project Homeless Connect Rochester (PHCR) is holding its

annual coat drive event on September 15th, at the Public Market

in downtown Rochester. The winter months in Rochester can be

brutally cold, so PHCR wants to ensure that people who are

experiencing homelessness have a coat to keep them warm

during this time. Webster Public Library is one of the locations

where people can drop off coat donations through September 1.
