Mark was born October 10, 1964 to Robert and Carrol (Pace)Grigg in Detroit. After high school graduation, he started workas a machine operator. He last worked at Morgan Olsen beforehealth reasons caused him to retire early. Mark enjoyed workingon cars and going camping. He will be remembered for hisquick wit, dry sense of humor, and being a bit sarcastic. Markwas always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. Histrue joy was spending time with his family, by whom he will bedearly missed.Mark is survived by his mother Carrol Grigg of Bronson; hischildren Neil (Erin) Grigg of Stuttgart, Germany, BradleySchieber of Ft. Mary Charlene Hillborg, 89, ofColdwater, passed away Sep-tember 5, 2020. She was bornDecember 7, 1930 in Decorah,Iowa, the only child of CharlesF. and May E. (Goodrich)Fraser.Charlene grew up in Decatur,Illinois and moved to Coldwaterin 1947. She graduated fromColdwater High School in 1949.She married James Bert Hill-borg on June 25, 1949 and theylived most of their married lifeat their Girard Township home.
She was employed 31 years at the Community Health Centerof Branch County in the Admitting-Registration Department. Sheserved from 1980 to 1992 as the Branch County American RedCross Program Coordinator.She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where shehad served on the Vestry, was a member of the Altar and St.Mary’s Guilds, and served at the Nearly New Shop as a volunteerand Board Member.Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents,and an infant granddaughter. She is survived by her daughtersConstance Hillborg of Palm Desert, CA; Karen Hillborg of An-gola, IN; and Kristin (Robert) Bluhm of East Leroy; her sonsEric (Vicki) Hillborg of Sherwood; and Bert (Vicky) Hillborg ofVassar; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. As she wished, cremation has taken place and a private familygraveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Cold-water at a future date. Roger Budd Tompkins, 86,passed away on August 30,2020 at home, surrounded byloved ones. He was born onApril 12, 1934 in TraverseCity Michigan to the lateRobert and Myrtle (Oman)Tompkins.Budd had a successful highschool football career thatincluded all-state honors.He joined the US Army
during the Korean Warwhere he played football.
When he was discharged he attended Northern Michigan Collegewhere he continued to play ball as a guard for three seasons.He was equally successful as a coach, teacher, and high schoolguidance counselor and spent the next four decades influencingmany lives. He coached football at Skandia, Big Bay, Coldwater,Frankenmuth and Traverse City Schools.Budd was named the Detroit News “All Class Coach of theYear” in 1969. He was on the Detroit Free Press football AllState Board Committee and the United Press International AllState Board. He received a special commendation for his coach-ing from the Michigan Legislature and was named regionalCoach of the year in 1974. He was inducted into the NMU Dis-tinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 1984.Budd loved to fish, especially fly fishing and tying flies. Heenjoyed cooking, and in his later years he became an accom-plished water color artist and wood carver. For Budd, “Impossi-ble” never was. When he was ailing in the last week of life hesaid, “I feel so… Lucky.” He was a proud, but humble man whotouched many.Budd is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, GretchenTompkins, children: Lisa Gorence, (Ken Johnson), Jennifer(Bertrand) Rigaldies, Paul (Meredith) Tompkins, grandchildren:Kyle Gorence, Kelsey (Jared) Powell, Emily (Jorge) Correa,great grandchildren: Carley and Robbie, siblings: Denise (Steve)Fasbinder, Joe (Judy) Tompkins; and siblings in law MaryFisher, Louise (Gene) Fry and Thomas Olmsted.Budd was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Kennethand Margaret Olmsted, siblings: Bobby, Nancy, Betty, Deke,Tommy, Phyllis, Barbara and Jerry.As we hold our life events during this time of Covid 19, we arepresently working on the details of a memorial service for Budd.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Budd’s honor to theSalvation Army. Lydia was bornon June 13, 1924 in Brook-field, Illinois. She was thesixth child of ten and theoldest daughter of Josephand Mary (Bazant) Schoun.
In 1932, her family moved to a farm in Branch CountyMichigan and lived in that area until her retirement in 1998when she moved with her husband, Alden Mahrle, to NorthCarolina to be near her children and grandchildren. Lydia wasa lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In1938, she and her family became members of the Quincy(Michigan) Seventh-day Adventist Church (later RaybornMemorial Coldwater/Quincy Seventh-day Adventist Church)where she was an active member holding varying church of-fices. For nearly 30 years, Lydia was employed by the Cold-water United Methodist Church nursery. Lydia’s legacy liveson at the Coldwater United Methodist Church as their nurserycontinues to claim the name “Lydia’s Place” in her honor andnow in her memory. Lydia also held a number of domesticjobs in the Coldwater area including employment by the for-mer owners of the Shopper’s Guide. Lydia was a regular vol-unteer at the former Community Service Center of theSeventh-day Adventists in Coldwater and she enjoyed read-ing, playing the piano, and spending time with her grandchil-dren. Survivor's include: Cheryl Toney (daughter), Arden Mahrle(son), April Mahrle-Henson (daughter), Six grandchildren:Nicole Nelson (Matt), Derick Mahrle, Darrell Mahrle(Amanda), Jillian Henson, Austin Henson, Justin Henson, twogreat-grandchildren and two sisters: Ruth (Schoun) Klooster-huis and Alice (Schoun) Cunningham.The family will host a memorial service on Sunday, Septem-ber 27, 2020 at 2 pm at the Coldwater Seventh-day AdventistChurch in Coldwater, Michigan. Beams Funeral Home of Fre-mont Indiana will arrange the interment service on Monday,September 28, 2020 at 10 am at the California Corners Ceme-tery.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ColdwaterSeventh-day Adventist Church, 399 N.
