What will we be writing?

At the end of this process you should end up with a five paragraph essay.

Your essay should be 500 words long.

Outline- The skeleton of your essay.

There is no specific way you must follow to put your outline together. Complete sentences Topics and phrases

The outline serves to ORGANIZE your ideas.

Creating an outline saves you time, later, in the writing process.

Basic Essay Outline

Introduction

You use the introduction to welcome the reader into your writing.

Hook- reader grabber. State your thesis

statement and subtopics.

Body Paragraphs

The number of paragraphs in the body of your essay will be defined by the number of subtopics for your thesis statement.

For each subtopic (each paragraph) you will add from 3-4 details.

Conclusion

This is the closing of your essay. You want to let the reader know that you are done talking.

You may re-state your ideas. (highly recommended)

In the conclusion you state your final opinion.

You DO NOT introduce a new topic at the end of your essay.

WRITING TIP

When writing, avoid the shotgun technique, but instead use the laser gun technique.
