(1) Project Purpose Improvement and dissemination of technology to reduce building collapse in case of great earthquakes are achieved. (2) Romanian Counterpart National Center for Seismic Risk Reduction, Ministry of Transports, Constructions and Tourism (MTCT) (3) Japanese Counterparts Building Research Institute National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) (4) Project Period Five Years from October 2002 to September 2007 Slide 14 JICA Project on the Reduction of Seismic Risk for Buildings and Structures in Romania (5) Project Outputs 1. Effective and low-cost retrofit techniques are developed by Center and acquired by structural engineers. 2. Regulations/ codes concerning seismic issues for both new buildings and existing ones are improved by MTCT and Center. 3. Post- earthquake evaluation techniques of the damaged buildings are developed by Center and acquired by structural engineers. 4. Disaster prevention education for the citizens is improved by Center.
