OUTCOME D – SOCIAL ISSUE RESEARCH
Overview:
• You and a partner will be completing a research project about a social issue or other problem that you believe
needs a change, needs a solution.
• You will research the history and causes of this issue, the symptoms of the issue, important figures and
events associated with it, and most importantly, the potential solutions. Once you find suitable, reliable
sources, each of you will create an annotated bibliography that includes at least two sources.
• You will need to create a thesis statement that addresses the problem and why it is so necessary to solve it.
Using your research, you will present a way to revolutionize this issue. Once you have organized your source
material, you will create an outline of your information.
• Finally, you will create a PowerPoint or Prezi and present this information to the class.

• Benchmark 3 – presentation (partner)
A NOTE ON PARTNERS•Be sure to choose a partner you work well with who you know will show up to
class, communicate with you outside of class, and complete his or her portion of
the work thoroughly and on time.
•Be a productive, responsible partner who does all of the above.
• I will be checking in with each person throughout to make sure you are staying on
track and contributing evenly to the assignment, but once you have chosen to work
with a partner, you’re in it together until the end; PARTNER-RELATED

CHOOSING A TOPIC
• On your own in your notebook:
•List your top 3-5 “general” topics.
• Then, start to narrow your topics
and list at least 3 questions you
have or details you’d like to know
about this topic.
Pick a topic that needs to be REVOLUTIONIZED! It
must be a problem for which you can propose
a tangible solution.
Pick a topic you’re interested in, but still can
learn more about.
Pick a topic that you can find credible
research to support!!!
Be sure to narrow it to a more specific topic;
you aren’t writing a novel. For example, instead
of “animal rights,” try “puppy mills” or “closing
zoos” or “shark killing” or “fewer bees”

interested in researching? Check with me.
